Welcome back to your monthly Maui Calendar of Events! March 2024 is set to be an exciting month on island, with successive weeks packed full, and catering to a wide range of interests. From some local favorite musical performances to cultural workshops, the island is buzzing. Whether you’re a local resident or a visitor looking to immerse yourself in the vibrant Maui lifestyle, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this month!

Iration w/Special Guests L.A.B. & Kabaka Pyramid

Iration is an alternative/reggae group originally formed in Isla Vista, CA. Their deep-rooted island influence and Hawaii upbringing is fused with elements of rock, pop and soul to create smooth, uplifting original sounds. Now, after almost two decades creating music together, Iration has racked up more than 1 billion streams, topped Billboard charts and established themselves as one of the most beloved reggae-rock bands to emerge from the SoCal scene.

When: March 1, 2024 6:00pm – 10:00pm, Pre-concert food & beverages available in the A&B Amphitheater Lawn beginning at 4pm. Where: Where: A & B Amphitheater and Yokouchi Pavilion, Maui Arts and Cultural Center, 1 Cameron Way, Kahului 96732. TICKETS: $45 (General Admission) & *$79.50 (VIP) (plus applicable fees) Prices increase day of the show. Seating is first come first serve on the bleachers. *All VIP ticket holders receive access to Front of Stage and exclusive access to the Yokouchi Pavilion bars and restrooms.

First Saturday at Keālia Pond

A free, inclusive event for all ages! Keālia Pond National Wildlife Refuge is open the First Saturday of every month. Attend our guided “walk-and-talk” native pollinator garden and wildlife exploration with our refuge staff. Borrow our binoculars to enhance the birding experience! Our first exploration is at 9:30am, our second exploration is at 1:30pm. Explore our coastal boardwalk, wildlife viewing ponds, visitor center and create native bird and plant themed-crafts. Other educational activties are also provided.

Ke Kauā O Ka Lāhui — The Life of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole Piʻikoi

Ke Kauā o Ka Lāhui: The Life of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana’ole Pi’ikoi is a play written by Victoria Nalani Kneubuhl and produced by the Hawai’i Pono’ī Coalition. Locally laudede\, it debuted at ʻIolani Palace in the fall of 2022. To tell an intense and intriguing biographical piece of Kūhiō was a challenging task. The famous and simultaniously controversial leader, with story not widely known. A discussion with a Hawaiian scholar will follow the performance. TICKETS: $20 (plus applicable fees) / Kids 3-12 half price

Kinky Boots

Get ready for the biggest show ProArts has ever produced, as this Tony-winning hit musical is guaranteed to lift your spirits, prehaps even approaching high-heeled heights! Kinky Boots is the musical extravaganza from the UK first arriving a decade ago on US soil. In its first season, the production won six Tonys, including: Best Musical; the Grammy for Best Musical Theater album; and London’s Olivier Award for Best Musical. Kinky Boots is highlighted by a joyous, award-winning score from no other than pop icon Cyndi Lauper; as well as a hilarious, uplifting book by four-time Tony winner, Harvey Fierstein. The Maui production is directed, choreographed, and music directed by Aly Cardinalli, winner of Broadway World’s 2024 Award for Best Director (Hawai’i Region); not to mention, the show will also be featuring the ever versatile, supremely talented and a dear friend of the Sayles Team, Brenden O’Colmain

Maile Ti Leaf Lei Workshop

Creating any lei involves working with precision. Join local stalwart Caitlyn Madrid for a hands-on, cultural lei-making class on the beautiful grounds of the historic Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center. Participants will create their own lei to wear and take home.

Caitlyn Madrid is a public high school agriculture teacher for the past 6 years on Maui and has been teaching natural resources with an emphasis on Hawaiian culture. Caitlyn has a background of 15 years of different agriculture work experience and workshops teaching traditional Hawaiian style of weaving lei and Lei Po’o (flower crown) & custom lei made to order perfect for special event groups.

When: March 29, 2024 12:00pm – 3:00pm. Where: Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center, 2841 Baldwin Ave, Makawao, HI 96768.

J Boog w/Special Guest Collie Buddz

J Boog is undoubtedly one of the top reggae singers in recent years. Mentored by island reggae icon Fiji, he fine-tuned his sound and style creating a unique blend that transcends across continents. His debut album, Hear Me Roar, dropped in 2007 and a few years later he released Backyard Boogie, which included mega-hits like Lets Do It Again and Sunshine Girl. Backyard Boogie earned J Boog the best entertainer at the International Reggae and World Music Awards in Chicago. Wash House Ting was released in 2016 and featured tracks with veteran reggae band Morgan Heritage as well as dancehall legend Buju Banton. The album topped Billboard Reggae Album charts and was later nominated for Best Reggae album at the 2018 Grammy Awards.

His EP Rose Petals was nominated for best reggae album of the Year at the 2017 Grammy Awards and also topped U.S. Billboard and iTunes Reggae charts. He was also nominated for Male Artist of the year at the Island 98.5 Island Music Awards in Honolulu in 2021. J Boog’s repertoire boasts tracks with Soja, Iration, Tarrus Riley, The Green, Fiji, Chaka Demus, Richie Spice and more.
