Partnering with the Flatbread Company in Paia, Pu’u Kukui Elementary School will host a fundraiser on their behalf scheduled for Tuesday, January 12, to raise money for the schools new playground! From 5:00 to 9:00pm, come on down to eat some great pizza and make a difference at the same time! A portion of all pizza sales will be donated to the Pu’u Kukui Elementary School’s PTSA. The PTSA has raised about $38,000 to date, for the school’s new playground. However, the school needs to raise an additional $25,000 in order to make the dreams of a playground. Date: Tuesday, January 12th, 2016, Time: 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, held at Flatbread Company in Paia on Hana Highway.

 

The Maui Oceanfront Marathon begins in Wailea and runs along Maui’s southern shore to its western one ending at the Kamehameha Iki Parker bead the Banyan Tree in the Old Lahaina Town. Included in the marathon is also a marathon walk, half marathon, Maui 15K, Maui 10K, and Maui 5K. The Maui Oceanfront Marathon is community event benefiting local school teams, clubs, and Maui non-profit groups that help put on the Marathon. The New Shanghai Circus is China’s most daring acrobats, jugglers, balance artists, and contortionists return to Maui for the year’s grandest family spectacular. Building on traditional Chinese acts, the artists of today’s New Shanghai Circus add layers of complexity and daring to bring new spectacular stunts and favorite jaw-droppers. Kids of all ages, from preschool to senior citizen, will enjoy these intrepid performers! Monday, January 18, 2016; 4:00 pm & 7:30 pm and also Tuesday, January 19, 2016; 4:00pm & 7:30pm. Held at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, Castle Theater.

Adult Fun

UB40 Reunited on Saturday, January 30, 2016 held at the MACC from 6:30 pm will be one of Maui’s most anticipated concerts all year!! Original members of UB40—Ali Campbell, Astro, and Mickey Virtue enjoying their success from 1979 until 2008, including  multiple #1, Top-10, gold-, and platinum-selling albums; Grammy nominations; and four #1 hits worldwide will be showcasing their talents live on the Valley Isle. Tickets:  $49 (advance); $59 (day-of-show); VIP $89 (advance); $99 (day-of-show) (plus applicable fees). Call the Maui Arts and Cultural Center box office for tickets.

Celebrating 15 years in conservation work, the Hawaiian Island Land Trust has cultivated a commendable reputation for their efforts in achievements since their inception. They are non-political by design, and are a non-profit organization committed to working with private landowners, community groups, community leaders and government partners to protect Hawaii’s precious lands. The Hawaiian Island Land Trust will have a celebration under the stars at Old Lāhaina Lū‘au with live entertainment. Scheduled for January 23, from 5:00-8:00 pm.

The Arts and Culture

The 4th Annual Willie K BBQ and Bluesfest Event is quickly approaching on January 8 and 9, 2016. The festival attracts tourists and local residents with the turnout being about 50/50 split of the local residents and visitors. This year’s proceeds will be designated for the Maui Office of the National Kidney Foundation of Hawaii. The sponsorship donation, minus any entitlement value, is also eligible as a tax-deductible donation for your company. Here’s the link for information on the event: http://williekbluesfest.com/.

For art connoisseurs enjoying their time in paradise where indulging is habit, finding time to enjoy some of the finer things like an art gallery showing is just the kind of thing Maui provides time for. Maui’s 14th Annual “Art of Aloha” in Lahaina beholds eight prestigious artists from around the world and will unveil beautiful new collections of paintings and sculptures at 828 Front Street in Lahaina. Scheduled for January 31, from 1:00-4:00pm.
