Kicking off the New Year: January Events

After moving over from a previous brokerage and into starting our own Remax Lifestyle, 2014 was a fruitful and encouraging year for the Sayles Team. Along with some personnel changes and departures, we were still able to grow our business! We totaled $61 million (rounded to nearest whole) in sales and remain excited to see what 2015 has in store.

Later this month we have a special treat as the Shanghai Circus is in town over Monday the 19th and Tuesday the 20th. These highly skilled, rigorously trained and multitalented acrobats will enthrall you as they bend and twist with graceful movements to form living sculptures. Building on traditional Chinese acts, the artists of today’s New Shanghai Circus add layers of complexity and daring to bring new spectacular stunts and favorite jaw-droppers. Dont miss this unique opportunity of a Whale Photo Safari with Pacific Whale Foundation based out of Ma’alaea will be held on January 7th from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. The Pacific Whale Foundation is going to put on a great whale photography workshop at sea. Novice or experienced photographers are welcome, this hands-on adventure will help you learn and practice expert techniques for photographing whales and other wildlife. Bring your own digital camera, or rent one (Canon PowerShot) from their Ocean Store. The cruise will be led by a naturalist and a photographer from Pacific Whale Foundation’s Adventure Photo staff. Book online or call 808-249-8811 ext. 1 anytime between 6am-9pm. The Run For The Whales Half Marathon takes participants from the Fairmont Makena Beach on a route towards Makena and then back. The event is a less formal marathon as both runners and walkers participate in the half marathon and 5K runs to benefit the marine and ocean education programs for Maui’s schools and the Pacific Whale Foundation, which supports research on humpback whales in Hawaii, including efforts to prevent whale collisions with ships. The event is set be held on Saturday, January 31st with the entry fee priced at $65. Use the same contact info as above.

Cultural

Willie K’s BBQ Blues Fest 2015 “Sharing the Aloha.” Hawaii’s only Blues Festival is truly rooted in the Blues. It is Uncle Willie K’s goal to create a family style festival always supporting a good cause. This annual sellout concert features nothing but the Blues, with legendary guitarist Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top. The Maui Nui Botanical Gardens are hosting their annual Hawaiian Taro Plant Sale. Their mission is to develop an appreciation and understanding of the living Hawaiian islands we call home. They are aiming to emphasize the plants of Maui Nui (Maui, Moloka’i, Lana’i and Kaho’olawe), along with providing a center for environmental education, Hawaiian cultural expression, conservation, biological study, and recreation. If you are interested in picking up a few plants, the even is scheduled from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens in Wailuku on Friday, January 9th.

Maui’s thirteenth edition of the “Art of Aloha” will be held at the Lahaina Galleries in the Shops at Wailea on Sunday, January 25th, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Celebrate with the 12 featured artist as the gallery welcomes captivating artists from around the world hailing from Hungary, Italy, England, Russia, Brazil, Canada and Hawaii! *This event is open to the public, refreshments & light pupus will be served.

Sports

Come out for a few days on the course and enjoy one of the prettiest golf course destinations played on the PGA tour. The Hyundai Tournament of Champions, played at the Plantation Course of the Kapalua Resort is is an absolute breathtaking course. The tournament is scheduled for January 9-12, double check their website once it’s closer to the event to confirm tee times. Winter is here, and the 18th Annual Pa‘ia Bay Beachfest is set to have some a great wave conditions! The event is slated to be held over two days: Saturday January 17th and Sunday January 18th, 2015. Both days will have food, music, and giveaways from the judges tent. All preliminary heats will be held on Saturday beginning at 8am. The semi-finals and finals will be held on Sunday beginning at 8am.
