Maui County Fair

The Maui County fair is always a special time of year for the Maui residents. This years festivities are celebrating the 91st edition of the E.K. Fernandez Maui County Fair. It is always jammed packed and is spread out over four warm October days; this year the fair runs from: Thursday, October 3 till Sunday, October 6.

The Zipper: the fair’s most popular ride

I have always enjoyed the fair, even now as an adult approaching my thirties I still hold a special place for it in my heart. Some of my best childhood memories arise from the fair, although my incentives for going to the fair now differ greatly from my childhood motives of the past, it still keeps me coming back.

The Maui County Fair is not spectacular by any means and many Maui residents will attest to that, but it’s special to many people in its own ways. The fair is the one event of the year that gets literally all of the Maui community together in one place. It’s sort of a community reunion for all because the fair is one the place and time of year that you get to see all of your friends and family in a single outing.

The Ferris Wheel, tallest ride at the fair

For me, the fair is special because of the atmosphere. Everyone is eager to enjoy the amusement rides and savor all of the wonderful foods that fill the food tents. The fair represents more than a community event, it demonstrates Maui as a cultural melting pot. Look no further than the food tents to see all of Maui’s culture in one place. At the food tents, you’ll see a Korean barbeque tent right next to a taco stand and then next to those you’ll see a Korean barbeque taco tent. What I’m trying to get at is that the Maui County Fair is where cultures come together to enjoy each others company.

Magic Maze, this year’s new fun house

The Fair is a great example of why Maui is so special to people. The entire community comes together to enjoy amazing nights under the stars with great company, whether they’re from Maui or even another country entirely. It’s the “Aloha Spirit” that shines through to make for an awesome weekend at the fair.
