Easily one of Wailea’s most favored beaches, Keawakapu Beach stands as the beach that joins the tail end of Kihei and the beginning of Wailea. The shoreline of the beach is fully developed but reflects the two worlds of Kihei and Wailea meeting; there are some magnificent $20 million beachfront estates, but then there are also Kama’aiana (local families) properties mixed in among the newly built luxury homes.
Also scattered along the shoreline are some hotels, condos and restaurants that are mostly on the Kihei side of Keawakapu. However, the beach and personal residences have been kept for the most separate, so the beach feels non-commercialized and is not over run by development like some other beaches on Maui.
The view from the Mana Kai Resort on the Kihei side of Keawakapu
Although there are two lots to choose from, parking here can be a real pain in the butt. The first choice is the lot just off of South Kihei Road, but there is beach across the street through a little cat walk. The second choice is the little tiny parking lot fronting the main beach area, it is a great choice to park here if you can manage to score a space. The world famous white sands of Keawakapu stretch all the way from the Mana Kai resort (located on South Kihei Road) to the very beginning of Wailea.
This incredible stretch of beach is a great place to spend an entire day. The sand is a perfect spot to spread out for a nap, you can even launch yourself on a great walk from anywhere on the beach. I suggest hiking (I use hike here loosely, but it will definitely feel like a hike) beach all the way up to the Grand Wailea and beyond.
Condos Within the Keawakapu Vicinity
Probably one of the closest condo complexes to the beach (the south facing side of the hotel closest to the ocean is set back less than 40 yards from the ocean), it doesn’t get much better than the Mana Kai Maui. Literally steps to Keawakapu Beach, the Mana Kai offers units that can either be used as personal residences (usually 2nd, 3rd, or 4th homes to owners) or as a hotel. While not in use by owners, many owners choose to put their units in a rental program to generate short term vacation rental income to help cover monthly expenses (taxes, maintenance fees, mortgages, etc.) or use it as a cashflow producing asset. A unit in the complex can set you back anywhere from $1.2-$1.8 million.
From the pictures, one can tell the unit sits adjacent to the Mana Kai pool and at first thought some buyers might not like that, but in reality its actually a really great location for more than just its view. We have the unit listed at $1,290,000. Having the pool in close proximity has a slew of benefits:
- Tapping into the pulse of the community and feeling the natural rise and fall of energy levels throughout the day
- The pool view from the unit allows parents to watch their kids from the lanai as they whip a quick lunch in the kitchen
- Falling asleep to the enchantment of ocean waves crashing onto the sand
- Killer spot to post up and watch South Maui’s Magical sunsets.

Kilohana Ridge is one of Kihei’s most desirable neighborhoods for an abundance of reasons. The community is only a street over from Kilohana Waena and Kilohana Hema; similar locations in almost every aspect besides price point and construction. Both Waena and Hema are custom home neighborhoods, while Ridge was developed by Towne Island Homes back in 2003. If you are familiar with Kihei, Kilohana Ridge borders the northern edge of Wailea, just above the world famous Keawakapu beach.
Since the homes are on the cusp of the Wailea resort, there are some fantastic deals in the neighborhood; this simple change in district is profitable for a few reasons, but mainly because buyers are getting Wailea luxury at Kihei prices — or simply, a discounted Wailea lifestyle.
The neighborhood provides a perfectly convenient home base for residents who enjoy being on the greens (3 championship Wailea golf courses) in the morning and enjoy watching the beautiful South Maui sunsets on the sandy shores of Wailea. However, if you enjoy the “Hawaiian Time” lifestyle, Kilohana Ridge is still a perfect fit. All of South Kihei is at your fingertips as it is just a short walk to S. Kihei Road. Kilohana Ridge allows residents to find the perfect blend of luxury, local, and outdoor Maui lifestyles.
Brought to market a little over a month ago, 147 Hoohale Street is a fantastic buy and has a rarely available pool in the Kilohana Ridge (non custom built home section of the Kilohana neighborhood) parcel of the community. This is he first time the home is offered for sale since being offered by the developer, so the home is in great shape and has been well taken care of and still has a clean feeling to it. The home was also remodeled this year to bring it up to today’s standards and is waiting for the perfect buyer.

The layout lends itself to an environment of indoor outdoor living as sliders open onto the lanai offering gorgeous views of the ocean, Kahoolawe, Molokini and Haleakala. Choose central air or ceiling fans for total indoor comfort. The exceptional design of the famous Padilla gate with copper banana leaf and Antheriam flower design adds class and beauty to the enclosed backyard and gives the essential privacy needed while sunbathing and playing in your salt water pool.
