Eat Like a Local at Keyakiya

  • Keyakiya is one of our go-to spots for the best Japanese Bento, Curry, Udon and Donburi on Maui.
  • From the Black Pork Katsu to the Wagyu Beef Curry and Ōra King Salmon, everything is made to order with care and quality.
  • Now in a new Wailuku location, Keyakiya continues to deliver exceptional value and flavor, just minutes from Iao Valley, Kahului Airport and Central Maui neighborhoods.

New Location, New Hours, Same Delicious Grinds

New Hours for Keyakiya, Maui Japanese Food Truck

Maui is home to many food trucks, but few are as beloved as Keyakiya. A true hidden gem serving up authentic Japanese comfort food, this unassuming bright orange truck crafts some of the best on island. One thing’s for certain, it’s definitely the tastiest coming from a truck! After seven years along Kahului Beach Road and the Harbor (old location pictured above), this past week Keyakiya relocated to a new spot off Lower Main Street in Wailuku (new location pictured below). Despite the change in scenery, the flavors remain as incredible as ever.

Now parked at 1005 Lower Main Street, Wailuku, Keyakiya continues to serve the community from a convenient Central Maui location. Regulars will find the new setup just as accessible with ample parking and still offering that laid-back island vibe. The team operates mainly during lunch hours and early dinner on select days (Wednesday through Sunday) and takes Monday-Tuesday off, so plan accordingly. Although the scenery has shifted from ocean views to a humble lot, the welcoming spirit and mouthwatering menu remain unchanged.

What to Order at Keyakiya?

Keyakiya Makes Some of the Bento Boxes on Maui

One of Keyakiya’s biggest draws is its stellar selection of Bento. These Japanese-style lunch plates come neatly packed with a protein, rice, and sides. Perfect for a filling meal. Among the favorites are the Black Pork Katsu Bento (pictured below), featuring juicy breaded pork cutlet made from premium kurobuta (Berkshire black hog) pork. The pork is fried to golden perfection, remaining tender inside and served with a fantastic housemade tonkatsu sauce.

Another top seller is the Yakitori Chicken Bento (pictured below). Tender, flavorful grilled chicken marinated in a savory-sweet glaze, a nod to Japanese street food skewers, but presented plate-lunch style. And for those who love seafood, Keyakiya offers an outstanding grilled Fish Bento using high-quality Ōra King salmon. This rich, buttery breed is often called the wagyu of salmon. Prepared shioyaki (grilled with salt) and served with a zesty ponzu sauce on the side, creating a melt-in-your-mouth experience. Each bento is rounded out with fluffy rice and organic greens dressed in a homemade ginger dressing, making it a well-balanced meal in a box.

Beyond Bentos: Donburi Bowls, Curry, Udon and More

If noodles are more your style, Keyakiya does not disappoint. Their Udon noodle soups (Veggie Udon pictured below) are easily some of the best on Maui! The Tempura Udon comes with plump shrimp and local veggie tempura atop bouncy udon noodles in a delicate dashi broth. They also serve the ever popular Japanese Sandos (sandwiches) like the Chicken Katsu Sando, a panko-fried chicken cutlet on soft bread drizzled with katsu sauce and mayo, served up with crispy Furikake Fries or fully-loaded Typhoon Fries on the side.

Keyakiya offers a variety of Donburi (rice bowls) that comfort the soul. From classic Oyako Don (chicken and egg simmered in savory sauce over rice) to hefty Katsu Don topped with either chicken or black pork cutlet. Another standout is the Wagyu Beef Curry & Rice (pictured below), which features tender wagyu beef in an immaculate Japanese curry gravy. You can even get it topped with a crispy katsu cutlet of your choice for ultimate indulgence.

Made-to-Order Freshness and Service with Aloha

One thing we love about Keyakiya is that everything is made to order by a small mom-and-pop crew. This isn’t fast food sitting under heat lamps. Each dish is cooked fresh when you order, ensuring maximum flavor and quality in every bite. The small but mighty team takes pride in their craft, and you can taste the difference. The trade-off for this freshness is that you might wait a bit during peak times, but it’s absolutely worth it. If you’re on a tight schedule, you can always call ahead at (808) 359-4919 to place an order for pickup. The folks at the truck are incredibly warm and polite, embodying the aloha spirit. They’ll greet you with a smile and happily explain the menu or chat while you wait for your food. This personal touch and dedication to quality make dining at Keyakiya feel like eating at a friend’s home.

A Hidden Gem That’s Pure ‘Ono

Keyakiya may not have the buzz of some larger Maui restaurants, but it has something better: a heartfelt local following and consistently ‘ono food that leaves a lasting impression. Thus is a true lesser-known treasure among Maui’s food scene. Whether you’re devouring a hefty black pork katsu bento or slurping up the last noodles of your udon, you’ll taste the authenticity and love put into every meal. In true Maui style, the portions are generous and the flavors are a comforting blend of Japanese technique with local island touches.

If you’re exploring Maui and want an alternative to the usual plate lunch spots, do yourself a favor and seek out Keyakiya. This humble food truck proves that sometimes the best meals come served in a takeout box from a roadside stand. A shining example of our island’s food truck excellence. A little gem serving big flavors. A place that belongs in discussion for best food on Maui. Simply broke da mouth!
