Maui Ranks Among Most Searched Destinations In 2022

According to the 2022 Outlook report released by Expedia Group, Maui ranked twice in the top five most searched visitor destinations on travel platforms, VRBO and Expedia. Maui was the second most searched destination on VRBO, while also claiming the fifth spot on Expedia.

Although all parts of the economy were impacted by COVID-19, travel and tourism were hit immediately with shutdowns and the decreased leisure travel. Many expected travel and tourism to suffer for an extended period, however, travelers displayed a willingness to overcome the required vaccine and testing requirements.

The 2022 Outlook report was completed in collaboration with Wakefield Research and polled 5,500 adults ages 18+ across Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, the UK, and US. The report effectively highlights the industry’s resilience and upcoming travel trends.

Interesting snippets of the report include:

More than half of the respondents plan to spend more on trips than before
Americans plan to spend $2353 on their next trip
38% plan to intentionally spend at locally owned businesses
54% will pick a destination known for strong safety protocols
40% plan to use loyalty rewards to fund their next trip
