Family Fun

St. Joseph Feast is scheduled for the weekend of April 29, 30 & May 1, 2016 at the parish grounds. A weekend of great fun, delicious food, auctions, plants, country store, games, crafters and wonderful entertainment all weekend. The funds raised from the feast supports community programs such as food distribution, financial assistance to those who are in crisis and renovations to the dilapidated gym which will be used as an Early Learning Center and a multi purpose center.

Hosted at the Wo Hing Museum in Lahaina, the Chinese Kite Festival exhibits handmade kites in traditional and modern practices. Enjoy workshops in kite making or purchase any of the artistically designed kites for sale. There will be Chinese music and entertainment, cultural games, Chinese tea in the garden, and manapua for purchase. Aerial displays of acrobatic sport kites and kite fighting from Hawaii Kiteflyers Association. FREE. Date: Friday, April 15th, 2016 & Saturday, April 16th, 2016. Time: 10:00 am to 7:00 pm

 Maui Choral Arts Association is thrilled to present “A Night at the Movies,” a fun‐filled salute to music from the big screen under the baton of artistic director, Gary Leavitt, with pianist, Lotus Dancer. The production features favorite selections from some of the greats of the silver screen, including Les Miserables, Hairspray, Rent, Amistad, Funny Girl, and more! When: Sunday, April 24, 2016; McCoy Studio Theater; 3:00 pm. Tickets: $30/adults; $15/students with ID & keiki 18 and under (plus applicable fees).

Celebrating 90 years, the Harlem Globetrotters will bring their talents to Hawaii for an awesome night of family entertainment. Every game the stars show off their incredible ball handling skills, monstrous dunks, trick shots, and unparalleled fan interaction. After the game, Globetrotter stars sign autographs and take photos with fans. Sunday, April 24, 2016; War Memorial Gymnasium; 3:00 pm.

April 16th, the 10th Annual Butterfly Effect is a non-competitive, global movement originating on Maui almost 10 years ago by Maui’s own,  all around water-woman, Tatiana Howard. Teaching, sharing and helping each other with SUP, windsurfing or kiteboarding, is one of its main goals. The event emphasizes how we can become more knowledgable and responsible in caring for our island and beaches. For more information visit: betheeffect.com

Adult Fun

The 2016 ʻAipono Awards will transform the Grand Wailea into a Venetian carnival. Experience innovative pupus by Maui Culinary Academy, a multi course banquet, and fine wines poured by Chambers & Chambers Wine Merchants.  The ʻAipono Awards are the first prestigious restaurant awards devoted entirely to Maui. Ticket sales generate valuable unencumbered funds for the school, as well as scholarship money for deserving students. Sunday, April 10 at the Grand Wailea Resort, Reception 5:30 p.m., Dinner 7 p.m.

Arts & Culture

Mana’o Hana Hou Radio, invites you to join them on Sunday, April 3rd for Upcountry Sundays Acoustic Style, their monthly benefit showcase. It is held at Casanova in Makawao, from 2 to 5 PM. It features some of the best in acoustic music. It’s a beautiful afternoon of great live music and great friends. Special guest, Kanekoa, will perform with the ukulele specializing in Hawaiian reggae, folk and rock.

Okinawan mochi

Learn to cook two traditional Okinawan food dishes with special instructor Eric Wada of Ukwanshin Kabudan. Ingredients and supplies will be provided. Students will cook along with Eric at their own cooking station (two students per station) and eat their own cooking! The two dishes will be Muuchi (Okinawa Mochi) and Champuru (Vegetable Stir Fry). Cost: $20.00 R.S.V.P. required. Date: Saturday, April 23rd, 2016 Time: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Mana: What is Sacred? A group of community experts come together to share and discuss this topic and what it might mean to you. This event is cosponsored by the Hawai‘i Council for the Humanities. Tickets: $12 (plus applicable fees). Sunday, April 10, 2016; McCoy Studio Theater; 3:00 pm.
