Wailea’s Newest Hotel

The Maui Planning Commission recently approved a new, family-focused 200-room hotel in the Wailea Resort. The hotel will formally be called the Pi’ilani Suites and will be built by the same company that recently finished the Marriott Courtyard Maui hotel by the Kahului Airport. Marriott International is the chosen hotel brand planned to manage the resort that will be built on 6.4 acres.

Located on the mauka side(mountain) of Wailea Alanui Drive and between the Wailea Town Center and Wailea Ike Drive; the four story hotel plans to to be more affordable than the other luxury hotels of the Wailea Resort. Guest ammenties will include a free breakfast, internet access, a laundry room, walking and bike paths, a resort-style pool, a sports court, a fitness center, and 138 on-site parking stalls.

Project planners have emphasized the use of natural lighting, energy efficient appliances, and renewable recourses. They also plan to shield the hotel from the street with elaborate shrubbery to keep privacy.

According to the Planning staff, the hotel will have at least 20% open space and “integrate with structures and interior access ways in order to maximize its parklike effect.”

However, there is still some major work to be done moving forward. Project developers need to prepare the development site with full specs. The necessary detailsa re as follows: establish a building and construction program, plans with grading, landscaping plans, and the locations of each structures. Construction must start by February 28, 2017 and be completed within 5 years time.

Developers are under strict protocol to follow archeological monitoring plans and must stop work if human remains are found. They also must use the best management plans to protect ocean water quality and marine sources.

The hotel could potentially be an all-suite hotel, closely resembling the design of The Fairmont Kealani. The developers are keen on being close to the heart of  Wailea, they plan on designing the hotel so that is a short walking distance to the Wailea Town Center. Plus Joe’s Bar and Grill (one of the most lay back restaurants to dine in Wailea) is just a stone’s throw away!
