Family Fun

25th Annual Kī Hō‘alu Guitar Festival is one of Maui’s favorite family events, as the all-star lineup includes some of Hawai‘i’s best slack key guitar players. All generations are invited to come and enjoy the slack key guitar tradition, with both new music and classic favorites. The event is an opportunity for both locals and visitors from around the world a chance to experience the local music and culture. It is Free Admission and will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2016; A&B Amphitheater; 1:00-7:00 pm; gates at 12:30 pm.

A great way to spend summer Friday nights are the Obon Festivals held throughout the summer months of the year. The events are a Japanese food and dance festival celebrating loved ones who have since passed on. Obon is a centuries-old Buddhist tradition and every summer in Hawaiʻi, Buddhist temples come alive with colorful celebration: kimono-clad dancers, music, favorite local foods, and more.  Schedule:

The Arts & Culture

Moku’ula by Moonlight in Lahaina in West Maui is a free cultural and educational program that is open to the public and is aimed to celebrate and embrace the Hawaiian culture. At the event is Hawaiian music and storytelling mesh together when local elders and musician reminisce in the stories of old Lahaina. Special guest speakers speak about current Native Hawaiian issues. Limited seating is provided for kupuna (elders); blankets, mats and low beach chairs are recommended. On June 20th, it will be hosted from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the beachfront Hale Halawai in Kamehameha Iki Park at 525 Front Street, Lahaina.

The Nā Kamehameha Commemorative Pā‘ū Parade would like to extend invitations to commemorate and celebrate Hawaii’s greatest ali‘i, King Kamehameha I. Ka Piha ‘Ana O Ka Haneli Makahiki or Celebrating Oahu’s 100 years of Kamehameha. The parade will begin at 9:45am from Kenui St. to Shaw Street, which fronts the historic Front Street in Lahaina. The parade is scheduled for Saturday June 18. Taking a step back from Hawaiian culture, Maui also has a handful of intriguing art exhbits. Held at the MACC, ArT=Mixx is a performing & visual art event designed to be an interactive art activity that relate to the gallery exhibit: The Rat & the Octopus. The fusion of blending performing and visual arts is a creative balance that all must see. The event is free and open to anyone 21 and over. Food and beverages will be available throughout the evening; enjoy music, dancing, performance art, mingle with friends, and have fun in the gallery. FREE t0 21+. Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Yokouchi Pavilion/Schaefer Gallery; 7:00–11:00pm.

Adult Fun

Thursday, June 30, will be an awesome treat for the County of Maui as Wayne Brady will be offering a master class performance at the Castle Theater. Starting a 8:00 pm, a show centered around music and comedy will guarantee laughs as has always been the case throughout Brady’s successful career. Tickets: $30, $40, $50, $60 (plus applicable fees). The Kapalua Wine and Food Festival, regarded as Hawaii’s most beloved wine Festival and the longest running food and wine festival in the USA, the event embraces the Hawaiian culture and celebrates Maui’s local selection of locally sourced ingredients. The event is a magical weekend on the shores of West Maui where food enthusiasts can enjoy the most distinguished culinary Festival in the state of Hawaii. It is a chance to be up close and personal with the world’s top winemakers and sample culinary specialties from celebrity chefs. The event is a weekend engagement from June 9th, 2016 to June 12th.
