Seabury Hall’s Joyful Annual Craft Fair

Olinda Tradition

With Mother’s Day just around the corner and as a graduate of Seabury Hall, I know I can always always count on Seabury Hall to have my back. Their annual craft fair is always hosted on the Saturday before Mother’s days, the perfect and stylish last minute gift shopping.

The craft fair is home to Restaurant Row which is sure to always features some of Maui’s most beloved food: Sansei Sushi & Restaurant, Flatbread Pizza Co., and Monkey Pod Kitchen. Great entertainment is plentiful as both students and teachers are sure to feature in many live concerts. The craft fair will also have various fresh produce, flower arrangements, games for kids, silent and live auctions, and the island’s largest rummage sale.

Most importantly, it features items for sale from more than 100 of Hawaii’s best artists and craftspeople. Years past have seen the participants include woodworkers, traditional Hawaiian artists, jewelers, ceramists and weavers.

The craft fair has been instrumental in raising money for student financial aid since 1973. All proceeds from the craft fair go directly to supporting Seabury Hall’s financial aid program. A little more than a third (35%) of Seabury Hall students receive financial assistance from this fund. In the 2012-13 academic year alone, $1,000,000 was distributed to students.

The financial aid program is concerned with providing deserving students with an opportunity for high-quality college preparatory work which might not otherwise been afforded to them if the fund wasn’t available. It also aims to ensure that the school has a well-qualified diverse student body reflecting a broad social and economic mix.

“The Seabury Hall Craft Fair has become a tradition for many Maui families–a way to extend Mother’s Day into an entire weekend,” said Gayle Hart, Seabury Hall’s parent coordinator and associate director of development. “People from all over the island enjoy coming Upcountry to ‘ooh’ and ‘ahh’ over the beautiful flowering trees, and spend a fun day on the 11-acre campus, eating delicious food, enjoying live entertainment and checking out the fun activities and exhibits.”

Admission is $5 for adults. Children ages 12 and under are free. Free parking is available. Premium parking is available for $10. For premium and special-needs parking, follow the signs onto campus.
