While taking a stroll along the Wailea Beach boardwalk yesterday afternoon, you can just feel the buzz around town.  As of March 2nd 2011, the average hotel occupancy rate in the state of hawaii was 81%, a 2.7% increase from the same week a year ago.  Maui’s hotel occupancy rate of 82.9% was 1.7 percentage points higher than it was last year.  Room rates averaged in at $187.12 across the state, which is a 3.9% increase compared to the same week in 2010.
