Maui Makers, Inc. and The Sewing Hui have collaborated together to create “volun-tourism” opportunities for Maui visitors. Visitors will have the opportunity to join The Sewing Hui in sewing for the Maui community, as well as a lunch and talk story hour with the residents that call the island of Maui home. It will be a chance for visitors to connect to the Maui community through giving back, creating, and enjoying a meal together with residents.

In addition, it will be a chance for visitors and residents to exchange, share, and learn from each other’s experiences. If you would like to be a part of this event as a resident or if you have friends visiting the island that you think would be interested, then please contact thesewinghui@gmail.com to sign up for the event. Sewing enthusiasts and people with a heart for the community are encouraged to reach out!

19th Annual Menehune Mayhem at Ho’okipa Beach Park

The Menehune Mayhem is a free two day surf contest for Maui’s youth ages 15 years old and younger. Additional activities to take part in at the event include creative exploration through art, music, and cultural activities along with educational centers for kids to learn the importance of being environmentally friendly and sustainable.

The annual event has grown immensely over the last 18 years. The small, local surf contest for Maui’s youth has grown into a sought after surf contest that has kids training and gearing up for all year long. More kids, spectators, beach activities, and opportunities to educate Maui’s youth in areas of importance has led to expanding the event over two days. The principles of the event and every child being able to participate for free will remain the same as the event continues to grow.

When: all day long May 13 & 14, 2023. Where: Ho’okipa Beach Park, 179 Hana Hwy, Paia, HI 96779
