As the winter season comes to an end, we welcome the arrival of spring with open arms. Days are quickly getting longer and the weather starting to dry up—it’s the perfect time to get out and explore all the exciting events happening this month. There’s festive celebrations, cultural exhibitions and even a world class race that starts in Wailuku passes through Ma’alaea and Lahaina and ends in Ka’anapali. Truly something for everyone to enjoy! In this April 2023 calendar of events, we’ve curated a list of some of the most exciting and interesting activities happening around Maui. So, grab your calendar and let’s start planning an unforgettable month!
Easter Egg Scramble
Join the community at Queen Ka’ahumanu Center for the Easter Egg Scramble featuring balloon twisting and face painting by Cirque Jolie. The first 100 keiki to arrive will receive prizes! The Egg Scramble will be broken up into 4️different age groups (0-4, 5-7, 8-10, 11-12) to give everyone the opportunity to fill their bags and baskets with fun treats & prizes! It’s encouraged that everyone to bring their own Easter baskets for the egg hunt.
Donʻt forget to snap a photo with the Easter Bunny who will be making a special appearance for his arrival. Plus, there will be plenty of prizes and giveaways throughout the event. Don’t miss out on an egg-tastic time!

Easter Bunny Photos
The Easter Bunny is hopping into town for the scramble and staying the whole week until the holiday! Bring your family and friends down to Center Court at Queen Ka’ahumanu Center to take photos that you’ll surely cherish. Printed and digital copies, and Easter-themed pictures frames will be available. The photo area will be open during Center hours.

Kapa Day Making Exhibition
This free exhibition about kapa making, its processing and history, will be a fantastic hands on opportunity to experience some of ancient Hawaii’s oldest craft staples. Presented by the Maui Historical Society, the event is free but there is a donation to enter the museum.
Hale Hōʻikeʻike (aka The Bailey House) is the former residence of the last Maui King Kahekili, and the museum is a repository for pre-Western contact artifacts and written histories dating back to the early 1800s. The museum contains more than 10,000 photographs and 2,000 historic objects. The first female seminary for Hawaiian girls was established at the site in 1837. Mālama ʻĀina – Hawaiian Monk Seal Stewardship
Do you want to learn more about some of the cutest animals only found in Hawaiian waters? Well, you’re in luck! Join Maui Dispatcher, Ashley Hechavarria and Hawaiʻi Island Dispatcher, Carmelita Villalobos with The Marine Mammal Center for an informative talk about Hawaiian Monk Seals. Learn about the history of The Marine Mammal Center’s work with rescue, rehabilitation, release, research, and education, as well as take a deeper dive into the stories of their Hawaiian monk seal patients.
They will describe the challenges they face, how they care for them at Ke Kai Ola, and how anyone can get involved to protect Hawaiian monk seals and our shared ocean environment. Reservations are not required, and this is a complementary talk so get there early for best seats!

Don’t miss your chance to revisit this Grammy-winning rock group, led for more than four decades by Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell. The power and poignancy of America’s musical imagery catapulted the group to the top of the charts in the 70s. Of America’s albums, six have been certified gold and/or platinum. Their top tunes (such as hits like: A Horse With No Name; I Need You; Ventura Highway; Don’t Cross the River; Tin Man; Lonely People; and Sister Golden Hair) were cornerstones of 1970s Top 40 and FM rock radio.
Yet beyond their impressive catalog of hits, listeners discover there is much more to America than surface perceptions. The combination of Beckley’s melodic pop rock and Bunnell’s use of folk-jazz elements, Latin-leaning rhythms, and impressionistic lyric imagery contributed to material that encompassed an ambitious artistic swath.

Earth Day Celebration at UH Maui
Bring the family as the UH Maui College’s Student ʻOhana for Sustainability (SOS) club is partnering with Maui Huliau Foundation to host an expanded annual Earth Day celebration on the campus’ Great Lawn. The free event is will highlight educational, career, and volunteer opportunities at UHMC and with sustainability groups island wide.
Also featured will be campus sustainability tours, outreach booths by more than 15 local nonprofits and government agencies, giant yard games, food from Maui Fresh Streatery food truck (one of the best on island!) and more.

53rd Annual Maui Marathon
The Maui Marathon event is not only the longest consecutively held running event in the state of Hawaii, but also the oldest marathon west of the Mississippi River! It has been chosen as one of the top 10 Most Scenic Marathons in the nation by Runner’s World magazine, and the #10 destination marathon in North America, by the Ultimate Guide to Marathons. More recently, the half marathon was even proclaimed to be the “Best Jaw-Dropping, Breathtaking, I’m-Never-Going-Back-to-Work Running Trips to Take”.
Maui Marathon Events consist of 4 races great for walkers and runners of all ages and abilities. All events are held on the same day and consist of a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and Full Marathon. The 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon events are all out and back events.
When: Sunday April 23rd, race starts at 5:00 AM and the marathon course will be open for 8 hours. Where: Starting gate is at the old Sugar Mill in Kahului on Old Puunene Ave, Kahului, HI 96732, and is a point to point run finishing at the Ka’anapali Parkway in front of the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel, 2525 Kaanapali Pkwy, Lahaina, HI 96761. Registration prices are as follows: 5k/$55; 10k/$65; Half Marathon $145; Full Marathon/$160; Full Marathon Relay (4 runners)/$375. Registration ends April 16th at midnight, and available online here.
