Maui truly is not only a tropical paradise for humans, but also for our furry best friends. With that said, what better way to enjoy the island’s natural beauty than by visiting some of the best dog parks on Maui!? Whether your pooch is a social butterfly or a lone wolf, I’ve got you covered with a brand new Top 3 list of the Best dog parks on the Maui. So grab your pup’s leash and let’s get going!
Makawao Dog Park
This park is located in the heart of Makawao, near Eddie Tam Memorial Center and Kalama Intermediate School, and is a great spot for an off-leash walk plus social time with your dog. It’s an enourmous, fenced-in area, split into two areas for small (under 20 pounds) and large dogs alike. There it plenty of grass and trees, communal toys and portable pools. It’s also home to a large playground for our bi-pedal keiki, as well as picnic tables in case you need to temporarily house those Komoda’s donuts or Liquor Shack plate lunches.
The park is also surrounded by beautiful views of mauna Haleakala, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a peaceful stroll with your furry companion. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, you and the family can even try to spot the legendary Maui ‘Dog-Zilla’…An ever mystical creature that always seems to just catch the corner of your eye!
Keopuolani Dog Park
This off-leash dog park is located in Wailuku, near Kahului harbor and the MACC, and is a great spot for a longer expedition with your dog. While the large, fenced-in area has plenty of grass and trees, the surrounding area is also home to myriad playground, baseball fields, tennis courts, and basketball courts.
There’s really no shortage of walking, running, and play areas! Your dog will love the space to roam around, and you and the ‘ohana will love the variety of other activities available. Just make sure your pooch doesn’t steal the ball during an organized game!
Kilohana Park in Kihei
This park is located in South Kihei and is one of the most popular parks on the island. Next to the main facilities, there’s a nice sized fenced-in area for all our canine companions with plenty of grass and trees. The surrounding commons are also home to a nice playground and numerous picnic tables.
The park is also located just up the hill from Keawakapu Beach and the Pacific ocean, so you can enjoy a beautiful view while your dog chases those imaginary seagulls. Or very real Myna birds. In any case, make sure to keep an eye on your pup, we don’t them to escape down to the beach for any “surf’s up” moments!
No matter which park you choose, your dog is sure to have a great time exploring the beautiful island of Maui. Remember that when you’re out of the designated areas, to always keep your dog on a leash (unless they have those highly sought after and ever rare Hawaiian Island Dog Park pass), clean up after your pet, and most importantly, have a great time.
