Staying healthy on Maui all year round

Maui is a destination sought after for its active lifestyle. There are many ways to keep your New Year’s resolution for good health and fitness. Here are a few of our favorites!

Wailea Beach Walk

Maui is known for its stunning beaches and scenic parks, making it the perfect place for outdoor workouts. All beaches are public on Maui and there is no shortage of water sports, beach walks or scenic opportunities for reflection. One of our team favorites is the Beach Walk in Wailea. The route totals 1.6 miles of a paved pathway that wanders along the ocean and the world class resorts of Wailea as well as beachfront condos of Wailea Ekolu, Wailea Elua, and Wailea Beach Villas.

Indoor Fitness on Maui

If you need a break from the sun, there are several options for indoor fitness. Some of our favorites include: Lagree Maui, Om Maui and Mangala Yoga. Lagree has locations in Wailea and Paia and is perfect for a no fuss, low impact, 40 minutes strength workout on their famous reformers. Om Maui in Pukalani offers a holistic approach to fitness with a large selection of class styles including, private, yoga, barre, spin and TRX. Mangala Yoga in Makawao has heated yoga, traditional flow yoga, strength and Barre classes. When you need a break from the sun, keep up with your practice or try something new at one of these locally owned fitness centers.

Hiking Trails

Maui has a variety of beautiful hikes for every level. For more advanced hikers we love the Keonehe‘ehe‘e Trail (also known as Sliding Sands) to Halemau‘u Trail (also known as Switch Backs) hike at Haleakala National Park. This hike will take you from Haleakala summit, across the crater floor, through a variety of scenic outlooks and out the Halemau’u switchbacks. Totaling 11.2 miles, this is a strenuous hike. For a more leisurely hike, explore the Makawao Forest Reserve. This is a popular area for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding, so you’ll likely run into others enjoying the lush forest.
