An Inaugural Party, Mahalo Aleworks Turns One!
It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year. Upcountry Maui‘s favorite brewery, Mahalo Aleworks, is throwing a first birthday bash starting today, September 1st. There will be five straight days of official celebrations; highlighted by five different live musical acts, commemorative anniversary merchandise, tasty food specials from Upcountry Sausage Co., and limited draft beer offerings.
Five Sunsets, 5 Musical Guests, Zero Cover
One of the main reasons why Mahalo Aleworks has gotten so popular is their live weekly patio musical performances. Graced by an array of underground talent, I’ve discovered more than a few of my favorite local artists here! Starting tonight, they’ll showcase some of their most requested musicians from 6-8pm, those perfect sunset and twilight hours.
Thursday: Hitzig Brothers and friends
Friday: Lo Wolf
Saturday: Shandi
Sunday: Sunny Kalama
Monday: Kanoa
Honestly you can’t go wrong with any of these entertainers, so be sure to show up early for those best seats. Now let’s get to their namesake, the ale!
What Beer to Order at Mahalo Aleworks?
Honestly it depends on my mood, as well as the current creations, because their globally inspired 12 tap draft board caters to most every style. I think their hoppy offerings best pair at dinner–a snappy sausage goes perfectly with a West Coast or Hazy IPA. For hot and sunny afternoons, their Hefeweizen, Golden Ale, or rotating Fruited Sours are my favorites. Winding an evening down, you can’t go wrong with a Belgian Dubbel, English Brown or Oatmeal Stout. They also offer a finely curated selection of red and white wine, in case there are Chardonnay and Cabernet drinkers amongst your crew.

Mahalo Aleworks is a shining example of a local craft brewery that honors its home and provides comfortable space for communal gatherings. Their beer is an homage to the incredible biodiversity of Hawaii. By utilizing an extensive array of fresh hyper-local, native and foraged ingredients, their talented team creates inspirational and unique beers. They carry a genuine passion to create world class ales here on Maui that highlight our island flavors and ingredients.
2 Delicious Dining Options Available On-Site
Mahalo Aleworks is also the full time home of the ever tasty Upcountry Sausage Co. Their menu features a classic German Bratwurst with sauerkraut, Italian Sausage with peppers and onions, as well as a spicy and smoky Cajun Andouillie. The Upcountry Smash Burger with bacon jam is also a standout, easily one of the best in the area.
If Italian specialties are more your flavor, neighboring Marlow (who I wrote about previously proclaiming best pizza on Maui!) is another great choice. My order now usually consists a Chopped Salad, Meatballs, Funghi White Pie or Calabrese Red Pie. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything on both these menus!

So whether it’s the first time to the brewery, or your a trivia night legend, this will be a lively series of evenings for everyone. Our Upcountry communities like Makawao, Kula and Haiku have grown to become destinations for those around the island for good reason. Kulamalu Town Plaza alone now houses a top notch brewery, ono restaurants, food trucks, and arguably the best farmers market on the Valley Isle Saturday mornings. The once sleepy slopes of Haleakala are now home to some of the best dining, drinking and shopping on all of Maui!
