Summer is in full swing here on the Valley Isle, and this month features numerous exciting experiences for all. Last Bon dance of the season

As we’ve highlighted in our previous article Maui Bon Dance Season is Back, our island community is excited to welcome back the time honored tradition of the Obon Festival, a summer season staple on Maui for years. Delicious delicacies, energizing music, and community aloha are all here in abundance, so bring the whole ohana! Four separate celebrations were originally scheduled for the month of August but unfortunately three of them have been cancelled.

Live Music and Comedy at the MACC

The Maui Arts and Cultural Center is undoubtedly the entertainment epicenter here on island, and August has no shortage of events to enjoy!

Jim Jefferies – The Moist Tour

Recently honored as Stand Up Comedian of the Year in 2019, Sydney native Jim Jefferies is one of the hottest comedic acts currently touring internationally. Best known for his television series The Jim Jefferies Show (Comedy Central), as well as his stand up special Intolerant (Netflix), fans can expect Jim to bring the laughs with an edgy and thought-provoking set. Paula Fuga – A Tribute to Aretha Franklin

Experience one of Maui’s most powerful voices pay tribute to the Queen of Soul herself in a night that you won’t soon forget. Along with an all-star 10 piece band, Paula is sure to serenade with hits from one of her greatest musical influences. Recently honored as the 2022 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Female Vocalist of the Year, this is a show not to be missed! Not convinced? Peter Kater in Concert

Piano lovers rejoice! One of the most prolific pianists and composers of the last four decades visits the intimate venue at Morgado Hall, for a night highlighting mastery of contemporary instrumental music. With a career punctuated by over 70 released albums, as well as scores for over 100 TV and Film productions, and 11 musicals, this evening will feature Peter’s true cross-genre mastery. When: Friday August 26th, show starts at 7:30 p.m. Where: Morgado Hall, Maui Arts and Cultural Center, 1 Cameron Way, Kahului 96732. Tickets are $40 and are still available here.

Fiber Arts Conference at the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel

Engage in, honor and learn traditional Hawaiian culture through hāwele (to bind or make fast), an art and ancient practice ever important to our islands. This conference’s mission is to discover and display the multitude of ways we may productively utilize native plant material. Leaves, bark, sedges and roots are just some of the fibers that will be used to weave, twill, twine and knot into countless precious creations.
