If you’re looking for the best pizza on Maui, take a trip up to Pukalani and visit the Marlow Pizzeria. Located next door to the Mahalo Aleworks Brewery, these pizzas are worth driving for. The owners Jeff Scheer and his wife Kaili recently opened up the restaurant, and did an epic job with the open decor and laid back ambiance.
Our family got hooked on their sourdough pizzas during the beginning of the pandemic. Jeff and Kaili were doing takeout orders off of instagram from their home in Kula, and we were ordering several pizzas from them every other week. It’s all about the dough!
My wife was making a lot of sourdough bread during this time, and I can tell you it’s a super complicated process. Because of the fermentation method, it requires multiple feedings of your starter to maintain solid colonies of good bacteria and wild yeast. You must follow a specific schedule to maintain the quality. If you feed it too much, the bacteria and wild yeast won’t have enough time to multiply. All too complicated for me, and all the more reason to just eat at Marlow.
Formerly the executive chef of Hotel Hana, Jeff also used to own Maui Executive Catering. He is known for his passion of using locally sourced ingredients and making exceptional culinary creations.
Everybody loves pizza, but these are very special wood fired pies. Sure you could get 5 large Dominos for the price of one pizza from Marlow, but you get what you pay for.
You can really taste the love and the freshness in their food. It’s also a very safe option for take out right now if you’re still not comfortable dining out. I’d recommend ordering 45 minutes before pick which you can easily do online through their website.
In addition to the pizza, there’s also a couple of fresh salads and other appetizers to choose from if you’re not looking to carb out for the night.
Rumor has it that there is an off menu super spicy Carolina Reaper sauce you may want to inquire about if you’re a spice fiend like me.
No reservations here, so make sure to show up early in the evening if you’re hungry. It’s a very popular place for good reason. Cheers.
