Maui Implements 2nd Test for Travelers

Beginning in early May, Maui County is expected to implement the mandatory requirement of a second COVID-19 test for all trans-Pacific travelers arriving on the Valley Isle. The program is slated to begin the first week of May as reported by the Maui News on Wednesday, April 21, 2021.

To clarify, trans-Pacific travelers will need to produce a negative COVID-19 prior to arriving on Maui AND to take a rapid COVID-19 test once landing in Maui. Those who do not comply will be subject to the mandatory 10-day quarantine. HOWEVER, trans-pacific visitors who have been fully vaccinated and can show proof of the vaccination in that timeframe, will be allowed to skip the post-arrival test.

Mayor Victorino stated the reason for the 2nd test is to determine how many COVID-19 cases are related to travel.

Also, all Hawaii residents who have been fully vaccinated by Hawaii vaccination providers can bypass the testing and quarantine requirements for inter-island travel beginning May 11, as announced by Hawaii Governor David Ige.
