Maui Implements Amended Restrictions

Out of an abundance of caution and in order to protect the Maui community, Governor David Ige approved Maui County Mayor Michael Victorino’s request to amend emergency rules effective January 19, 2021.

The newly amended public health emergency rules are posted in their entirety at the County of Maui website.

Five Key Restrictions Implemented

Changes to Pre-Travel Testing Program

Pre-travel COVID-19 test must be taken and produce a negative result prior to arriving in Maui County to be exempt from the mandatory 10-day quarantine.

Interisland and transpacific travelers who wish to be exempt from the 10-day quarantine must complete the following in addition to testing negative:

  • Download either the AlohaSafe Alert application or another Google-Apple Exposure Notification System application
  • Enable their exposure notification setting on their mobile device

Face Mask Rules Revised to Clarify for Beach/Pool Areas

Face coverings must be worn at all times while walking to the beach or pool area. They may only be removed once adequately social distanced at the final destination or in a stationary position away from non-household members.

Revised Mask Rules at Gyms, Yoga Studios and Similar Venues:

Customers of the above mentioned establishments whether indoors or outdoors must follow the same rules as the beach/pool areas.

30 Percent Max Occupancy for All Retail Businesses in Maui County

Capacity limits can be calculated by totaling the interior square footage, dividing it by 36 square feet (social distancing measures), and multiplying it by 30. For example, a 4000 sqft. business would be allowed 34 customers.

Bars and Restaurants Subject to 10 p.m. Closure for Dine-in; Curbside or Drive Through Service May Continue Beyond That Time

Entry into food establishments are not permitted past 10pm, but take out and drive through or curbside pick up past 10pm ARE permitted.
