The Best Maui Beaches For Long Walks

Going for long walks on Maui beaches are as glamorous as you would imagine. Whether at sunrise, sunset, or just about any other time of the day, Maui’s beaches have so much to offer in terms tropical flora, varying shades of color, and even different textures of sand!

Mayor Victorino has stated that the Maui Police Department will not issue citations for those walking on the beach to get their daily exercise. However, not sitting, laying down, or relaxing on the beach will be enforced.

With that said, check out our favorite Maui Beaches for long walks.

Wailea Boardwalk

While not exactly on the sandy shores itself, the Wailea Boardwalk Trail sits just above the sand and covers a 3.5 mile loop of Wailea’s most pristine beaches. The boardwalk stretches across some of Wailea’s famous beaches in this order:

Sugar Beach

Sugar Beach just in front of Sugar Beach Resort

A 3-mile stretch of white sand that’s among the longest in the islands, this beach spans pretty much the entire Ma’alaea Bay.  The sand here is extremely fine (hence the dubbing of sugar) and during the winter months, humpback whales can be seen in abundance.  The west end of the beach is Haycraft Park and Ma’alaea Harbor. If there is a big south swell, the wave off the harbor, “Freight Trains,” can be one of the best in the world.

Baldwin Beach is the most popular North Shore beach. It’s wonderful, long, wide, sandy beach park just outside of Paia. Fully equipped with lifeguards, port-a-potties, showers, barbecues, picnic tables and a covered pavilion. Both ends of the beach have calm swimming areas (west end is known as Baby Beach and the east as Baldwin Cove).

The cove end offers a well-worn trail along a sea-wall and the baby end offers a 50 or 60 yard sand hill with a steep climb and a set of pull up and dip bars.

Big Beach stands heads and shoulders above some of Maui’s best beaches. You’ll find just under a mile of perfect sand, the beautiful backdrop of lower Haleakala, and water that’s a vibrant blue green. It is one of the largest beaches in Maui, extending nearly 2/3 of a mile long and 100 yards wide of golden Maui sand.
