West Maui is home to some great beaches and is another popular visitor destination for its variety of outdoor activities, fabulous restaurants, stunning golf courses and numerous West Maui real estate options. Ranging from luxury condos to awesome value buys, West Maui is consistently in demand.
8:00am: Enjoy a Sweet Breakfast
They always say to start the day off with a healthy breakfast, but when on vacation it’s okay to indulge! We recommend stopping by Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop for Maui’s best pies! Ranging from mini pies to pot pies and handheld pies to home made pies, Leoda’s has it all! They also offer highly rated sandwiches, so take some to go for a mid morning snack!
9:30am: Dragon’s Teeth
Dragon’s Teeth is a true natural wonder and is a clear example of what happens when forces of nature collide. As the lava from the West Maui Volcano poured into the ocean, fierce wind and waves forced it back and it cooled into a formation that resembles great black teeth. The wind sweeping over the point caused the lava to harden in an upward fashion. The jagged points of this formation look like dragon’s teeth, thus the name.
Dragon’s Teeth is especially easy to access from the Montage Kapalua Residences, as you may simply walk the pathway that runs parallel to the hedges.
12:00pm: West Maui’s Star
Nestled on the lower base of the West Maui Mountains, Star Noodle is doing their thing. They have quickly shot to local stardom, earning themselves the reputation as one of Maui’s best restaurants. They specialize in focusing on a variety of noodle dishes and street foods that originate from Japan, Thailand, and the Philippines to name a few.
The interior of the restaurant is modern with clean edges. There is a large communal tables directly in the center, bar stools along the bar which is on the mauka side of the restaurant, and more private tables along the back walls.
3:00pm: Black Rock
This beach is well known as two different names because of the commonly known landmark associated with the beach, Black Rock. Ka’anapali Beach is the 3 mile long stretch of white sand housing Black Rock on the northern end by the Sheraton Hotel. On numerous occasion the beach has been rated as one of the best beaches in the world by travel publications such as Condé Nast magazine.
Black Rock is the pronounced rocky peninsula that juts out into the ocean creating a natural diving board. The water is deep enough to safely jump in and feel secure about the surrounding water. The reef and rock edge around black rock offer great snorkeling conditions for those who are interested. Also, black rock is the perfect place to practice rock running, it’s an exercise where one attempts to carry a rock as they can under water. It’s a great work out, I recommend trying it!
7:00pm: Mala Ocean Tavern
Sitting as close to the ocean without possibly going in the ocean, Mala Ocean Tavern is one of West Maui’s best restaurants that seemingly goes unnoticed. While their Yelp has over 1200 reviews and a 4 star rating, the restaurant is easily one of Maui’s most underrated restaurants that certainly needs more recognition.
But that is just how some people like it, they want to keep Mala as one of Maui’s best kept secrets for oceanfront dining. Although they’re located on Front Street, they are at the very edge just past the Mala boat ramp, hence the name of the restaurant.
