40th Annual Whale Festival

Spread across the whole month of February, The Maui Whale Festival celebrates its 40th year! Since 1980, the festival has been dedicated to protecting and raising awareness about Maui’s most famous seasonal visitors, the humpback whales! The festival brings together residents and visitors in celebration of the whales.

Run & Walk for Whales

The Run and Walk will kick off in Maalaea with options for a 1k, 5k, 10k, and 10 mile options. The course is mostly flat so it is easy for all to participate. Stick around after the walk for some celebratory activities. All proceeds will go towards supporting the Maui Whale Foundation.

Whale Day

Hosted at the Kalama Beach Park in Kihei from 10:00am to 3:00pm, celebrate the 40th year of protecting the ocean with the Pacific Whale Foundation! Head on day for a free day of family fun exploring interactive displays on marine research, education and conservation; hula performances; a keiki carnival; local food vendors; Made on Maui arts & crafts vendors; expert speakers and more as we celebrate our 40th year of ocean protection!

Parade of Whales

After a temporary break, the Parade of Whales is back and better than ever with a Whale Day Parade for all ages including live festivities and ocean themed exhibitions promoting ocean conservation!

  • Saturday, February 8 from 9:00am to 10:00am
  • Kamaole Beach 1 to Kalama Park

Concert Cruises

Part of Maui Whale Festival’s celebration weekend, these special Concert Cruises offer a spectacular setting to enjoy the best live music on the island. Tasty appetizers, refreshing beverages, and special guest appearances by humpback whales.

  • Saturday, February 8th from 5:30pm-7:30pm
  • Sunday, February 9th from 2:00pm-4:00pm
  • Saturday, February 15th from 2:30pm-4:30pm
  • Saturday, February 22nd from 5:00pm-7:00pm

Family Fun

Join Queen Ka’ahumanu Center for one of the most popular traditions, the Chinese New Year of the Boar! The annual celebration will consist of a martial arts presentation, firecrackers and colorful lion dance by Au’s Shaolin Arts Society.  Chinese erlong (children) crafts will also be available for keiki 12 and under. When: Sunday, February 2nd from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. Where: Queen Kaahumanu Center. 

2020 Annual Christ The King Church Bazaar will present their annual fundraiser and include: free admission, lots of on campus parking, food, games, entertainment, silent auction, and more. When: Saturday, February 8th from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Where: Christ the King Church in Kahului.  Adults Night Out

Arts & Culture

Enjoy a fantastic performance by a local artists at Kūkahi 2020: Keali‘i Reichel and Hālau Ke‘alaokamaile. Keali‘i Reichel is renowned for his commitment to native Hawaiian culture and showcasing its beauty through music. Recognized for 38 Na Hoku Hanohano awards and two Grammy nominations, enjoy a local legend for a night of fun! Prior to the show, enjoy some light festivities in the Yokouchi Pavilion Courtyard, with local craft vendors and live music by the Kamehameha Schools Maui Hawaiian Ensemble. When: Saturday, February 15th at 7:30pm and Sunday, February 16th at 2:00pm & 7:30pm. Where: Maui Arts & Cultural Center.
