With numerous word class and global chain hotels for visitors to choose from in the Wailea Resort, it is a little boutique hotel on the hill that takes the claim as Hawaii’s Best Hotel.

Via Condé Nast Traveler magazineʻs 31st annual Readers’ Choice Awards, the Hotel Wailea has received the #1 ranking as Hawaii’s best hotel. This is the 2nd consecutive year that the hotel has won the prestigious award.

The 72 room Hotel Wailea is owned and operated by Jonathan McManus, an Oahu boy who took the reigns and led a top to bottom remodel in 2015. McManus believes the success of the property is due to the its style of service, which constantly aims to be up to date on the latest luxury hotel trends.

If you have ever been, it’s the hotel’s location on the hillside that makes it unique and offers a nice contrast to the beachfront hotels. The hotel is definitely geared towards the adult demographic as it is strictly an adult only hotel.

Hotel Wailea takes a unique approach to its resort design and aims to offer a more private and intimate setting than its beachfront counterparts. They strive to offer value added services and attention to detail that you may not get at a 300+ room hotel. Some of those services include: seven-course treehouse dining, vintage Porsche cruising, and interactive cooking classes.

Close to 500,000 Condé Nast Traveler readers submitted ratings for the awards based on their travel experiences. Five other Wailea resorts made the list with 11 of the 25 top hotels being Maui based, no other hotel across the state comes close in terms of making the list.

New developments at Hotel Wailea include: the highly anticipated second restaurant location for Senia owners, a revamp of four suites designed by Philpotts Interiors, and a new cooking class led by Chef Krista Garcia.

“This has been great for some very interesting celebrity events that need the privacy,” McManus said. “It is very unusual to be able to buy out a property in Hawaii that has privacy and is situated behind gates.”
