The 2nd Annual “Live Local. Live Healthy” ‘Ohana Expo is an ongoing initiative meant to benefit the Maui community. The Queen Ka’ahumanu Center will celebrate and promote healthy living for the entire month of January. The expo will feature healthy cooking demonstrations, fitness activities, much and more! Toni Rojas, QKC Marketing Director stated, “Our family fun event will appeal to all, from keiki to kupuna. Special emphasis will be on our island-style living and how we can bring these healthy alternatives into our daily routine.” When: Saturday, January 13 from 10:00am to 2:00pm. The New Shanghai Circus, China’s most daring acrobats, jugglers, balance artists, and contortionists return to Maui for a special and magical performance. These highly skilled, rigorously trained and multitalented acrobats will enthrall you as they bend and twist with graceful movements to form living sculptures. Building on traditional Chinese acts, the artists of today’s New Shanghai Circus add layers of complexity and daring to bring new spectacular stunts and favorite jaw-droppers. When: Monday, January 16, 4pm & 7:30 pm and Tuesday, January 17, 2017, 4pm & 7:00 pm. Where: Castle Theater at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. Cost: $12, $25, $35, 10% for children 3-12 years (plus applicable fees).
Doing Good For the Community
The Hawaiian Islands Land Trust (HILT) will host its 17th annual Buy Back the Beach: Mālama Kīpuka Benefit Lū‘au. The fundraising event gathers some of Hawaii’s most committed conservationist for an island style party that enables the land trust to continue and advance its conservation projects. Attendees will be treated to some great drinks, the opportunity to participate in a live and silent auction, plus some great entertainment by local performers. The benefit proceeds goes towards protecting the precious landscapes and places in Hawaii. When: January 20 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Where: Old Lahaina Luau. Tickets are $175/person.

Join Willie K for an eclectic and electrifying night as he hosts local and far away guests for the annual Willie K & Friends Bluesfest. A living legend in Hawai‘i, Willie K inspires many with his diverse range of musical genres and ability to entice many of the world’s best performers to play as his guest artists. The Maui Ocean Center host an awesome and free lecture series called the Sea Talk lectures. They take place at the Open Ocean exhibit which allows for a more intimate and uniqe experience for guests. This month in January, they will be holding two lectures. The first one is titled, the Trials and Tribulations of Baby Corals where they detail the status quo of corals and how climate change is impacting their lives. The 2nd talk is the Discovery of a Remarkable Deep Sea Symphony: First Exploration of the Musicians Seamounts; the lecture is focused on the 25+ cone-shaped and ridge-shaped seamounts located 270-800 miles north-northwest of O‘ahu. When: January 3rd (coral) and 18th (sea symphony) from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Where: Maui Ocean Center. Seating is limited, advance reservations are recommended.
