The 95th Maui County Fair is always Maui county’s favorite weekend where it celebrates this year’s theme of “The Greatest Things in Life.” The opening Thursday parade is Maui’s largest parade and is the official beginning of the Maui County Fair! With rides, food, entertainment, horticulture, livestock, homemaking, photography and art exhibits, it is a great start to the Fall season! The fair is always a great prelude to the upcoming Holiday season which will be upon us before we know it! When: Thursday, October 5th to Sunday, October 8th. Where: War Memorial Complex.

The 2017 Fall Harvest Festival by the Haku Baldwin Center is a main fundraiser for the organization and is definitely an Upcountry favorite! The community comes together in support of the organization and enjoys: pony rides, a craft fair & farmers market, petting zoo, face painting, carnival games, silent auction, food trucks, and more. All of the proceeds go towards fostering “therapeutic partnerships between people and animals which we believe promotes the growth and development of healing relationships among all living beings,” according to their website. When: Sunday, October 22 from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Where: Haku Baldwin Center at 444 Makawao Avenue.

Adult’s Night Out

AquariOM Yoga at the Maui Ocean Center is a unique Maui experience that you can only try on Maui! Nowhere in the state besides the Maui Ocean Center do you get to meditate and practice yoga class in an open ocean exhibit with sharks, rays, and hundreds of colorful fish. The class is great because it increases strength and concentration while decreasing stress and illness. Take your level of peace to a completely new level by being one with nature. Pardon the name, but the 5th Annual Touchdown for Tatas is among one of Maui’s most favorite charities because it benefits the Pacific Cancer Foundation with the showcase event being a Monday Night Football showdown between the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs! Held in the mid afternoon, go on down and enjoy a pint while contributing to a great cause with prizes at the end of each quarter and donations for each touchdown! The Arts & Culture

Mōhala Mai with Kumu Hula Napua Greig is an annual event by Kumu Nāpua’s halau (similar to an American dance company) which celebrates traditional Hawaiian hula, oli and song. Kumu Nāpua is a multiple award winning kumu hula and recording artist, where she showcases music and hula from her brand new release entitled “Makawalu.” Also enjoy a unique silent auction held in the Yokouchi Courtyard/Pavilion which will feature rare, handmade items that cannot be found elsewhere. When: Saturday, October 21; silent auction at 3:30pm, show begins at 5:30pm. Where: Maui Arts & Cultural Center.

Halloween Night For Adults

Halloween on Front Street at Lahaina Town is easily and undoubtedly Maui’s premier Halloween party, so much so, it has often been referred to as the “Mardi Gras of the Pacific.” To ensure safety, Lahaina Town now closes Front Street to allow for foot traffic where Halloween goers can walk freely down the street and enjoy the evening. They’re still working out the details, but a children’s parade usually kicks off the festivities around 4:00pm-4:30pm with a children’s costume contest following. Once the sun goes down, I recommend taking the kids home or moving them to a more kid friendly environment. After the sun sets, it is more of an adult’s scene as the drinks start flowing. When: Tuesday, October 31st. Where: Front Street, Lahaina.

Halloween Night For The Keiki

Some of the best places for kids to enjoy Halloween is in residential neighborhoods where the streets are wide, well lit, and safe from careless drivers. Here are some of my recommendations:

• Kilohana Neighborhoods: consisting of 3 neighborhoods built in the late 2000’s and early 2010’s, Kilohana is a great choice because it sits on the cusp of Wailea and Kihei, so the neighborhood has plenty of street lights and low vehicle traffic throughout.
• Spreckelsville: on the North Shore of Maui, Sprecks is a well to do beach community with plenty of families and a well known reputation for always having candy!
• Pukalani: located on the lower slopes of Haleakala, Pukalani is a family friendly community with many families choosing it as a safe neighborhood to take their young ones.
• Maui Lani: located in central Maui by the Dunes Golf Course, Maui Lani is a master planned community that consists of 5-7 neighborhoods. So if one street isn’t satisfying the kids, you can just walk a few blocks over and that should do the trick.
