Family Fun

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa, The Butterfly Effect and Maui Jim present Maui Paddle for a Cure 2016. The even is a non-competitive, easy going paddle along the beautiful shoreline of Ka’anapali Beach in West Maui; some choose to stand up paddle, while others prefer to kayak or paddle canoe in a team. The event is to support and raise funds on behalf of Susan G. Komen, Hawaii Affiliate, supporting their efforts in aiding prevention, screening and treatment of breast cancer in Hawaii. When: Saturday, October 3rd, 2015 at 7:00 am at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa. More details at their website.

The 94th Maui County Fair is easily the event all of Maui’s keiki (children) look forward to every year! The fair kicks off with its annual Maui County parade (Thursday, October 6th at 5:00pm), it begins at UH Maui College along Ka’ahumanu Avenue and makes it way down towards War Memorial Stadium on Kanaloa Avenue where the parade ends at the entrance to the fair. The fair is Maui’s largest event and is themed “The Home Grown Fair”. As always it will feature ono food of the various local ethnic groups, educational booths, local entertainment and quality time with family and friends. The entire event will be held from Thursday evening, October 6th to Sunday evening, October 9th.

The 34th annual “Kula Festival” is a great Upcountry event to look forward to. The Kula community, as well as rest of Maui, come together and enjoy the beauty of Kula’s cool weather, sumptuous ocean/mountain views, and beautiful blue skies. As always, there will be many things to enjoy for all ages including, live and silent auctions, a farmers market, kid games, crafters, baked goods, a quilt show, and delicious festival favorites like chow fun, hamburgers, waffles, smoked meat, vegan curry, fudge, and the ever popular Portuguese bean soup! Date: Saturday, October 1st. When: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Kokua 4 Kokonuts is a fun walk through Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center and is perfect for all ages – The whole family is invited! A $35 registration fee ($10 for kids 12 and under) is all that is needed for walkers to receive an official event t-shirt, and to be entered to win a variety of prizes. Kokua 4 Kokonuts will also feature entertainment, Zumba, keiki activities, a visit from Hello Kitty and much more! Date: When: Saturday, October 1, 2016. Where: Queen Ka’ahumanu Center. Time: Registration-8:00-9:00am; Walk-9:00-10am.

Adults Night Out

“Taste of Upcountry” is  a new culinary event by the the board of directors, staff, faculty and parents of Montessori School of Maui. The event designed to highlight Maui’s talented chefs and many local farmers and purveyors, who provide an abundance of food and produce on the island. The launch of this event will create a tradition of sharing and enjoying farm to table cuisine with the community. Individual tickets and sponsor tables are now on sale. Proceeds support the nonprofit Montessori School of Maui. When: Saturday, October 8th, 2016, 6:00-10:00pm. Where: the manicured grounds of the Montesorri at 2933 Baldwin Avenue in Makawao. Join an all-star line up of Maui’s top chef’s in collaboration with the talented students of Maui Culinary Academy for Noble Chef: Puttin’ on the Taste! This year, Maui Culinary Academy is celebrating 20 years of culinary arts education on Maui with a “Roaring 20’s” event. The Arts & Culture

Led by kumu hula, Nqpua Greig-Nakasone, Halau Na Lei Kaumaka celebrates their 20th year of cultural practice with hula, oli, language, and song. The halau will perform some of their very best of from the past 20 years and share their vision. Special guest artist, Robert Uluwehi Cazimero (kumu (lead instructor) of the 2015 Merrie Monarch winners). Halau silent auction will open at 5:30pm.  Where: Yokouchi Courtyard/Pavilion. When: Saturday, October 15 at 7:00 pm.

To support a prominent local ethnic group in Hawaii,  the annual Maui Fil-Am Heritage Festival is a family event that promotes and perpetuates the Filipino culture. Now in its sixth year, the Festival  This year, the festival will commemorate the last sugar plantation in Hawaii. Where: Maui Mall in Kahului. When: Saturday, October 15 from 10:00am-3:00pm.
