Easier Access to Kalama Kai
Owning a property at an affordable rate just got easier at Kalama Kai. The development has loosened the restrictions on qualifying for the affordable units. When first released, the Buyers of affordable properties needed to be residents of the island for at least two years and qualify for income requirements.
Under the modified qualification, the Buyers are not required to show residency on Maui for the last two years. This means potential owners who are off island but planning to make Maui home now may apply for affordable properties as long as they meet the financial requirements.

- Developed by: Armstrong Development
- 100-percent affordable housing
- 39 three-bedroom units
- Limited one-bedroom units
- Starting in the $300,000s
The three-bedroom units fall somewhere in the 800 square foot range with two bathrooms, living room, dining area, and a spacious 100 square foot lanai. The one-bedroom, one-bathroom unit is 560 square feet. Some units have ocean views.
Armstrong Development says the 2015 amendment to the Maui County Affordable Housing ordinance makes it more feasible for affordable projects, like Kalama Kai.
The project sits a few blocks up from the Cove Beach Park, which is regarded as one the best places on Maui to learn how to surf! If surfing doesn’t peak your interest, any of the three Kamaole Beach Parks are just a short stroll up the road.
If water sports don’t peak your interest, the Maui Nui Golf Course is a few blocks and is great place to playa few rounds
