It’s been a few years since beloved community member, Alii Chang passed away, and left the management of the Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm up to his son Koa, who at the time of his father’s death was pursuing a career abroad in mixed martial arts. Koa had no prior business experience other than working at the farm while growing up, however, he does hold a degree in sociology. Co-founder Lani Weigert, has voluntarily taken a hands off approach and handed over the reigns to Koa. Lani since has moved to the Big Island and still contributes in an advisory role.

Perched on the beautiful mountainside of Halekakala is Maui’s original and only lavender tour. The farm is one of the leading companies in Maui’s rich agritourism industry. Upon reaching this steep location in Kula, enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Maui as 45 different varieties of lavender are at your fingertips.

The farm is open year round with regular admission at $3. There are various aid tours, luncheons, and products to choose from. The address of the farm is 1100 Waipoli Road located in a small town in Upcountry. The farm and gardens occupy 13 acres at 4000-foot of elevation. The drive from Kaanapali (west Maui) takes a little over a hour and a little under an hour from Kihei (south Maui).

Their most popular tour is the Lavender Garden Tea Tour. It is an event that is offered daily from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. During the tour sip on lavender hot tea, much on some scones, discover the orientation on lavender, walk a tour of the garden, and visit the studio gift shop for a souvenir. The tour is offered for $25 ($15 for Hawaii residents) and kids under the age of 4 are free. You won’t regret the quick tour as it lasts a manageable hour and is worth the time and money.
