All About Central Maui

After a few tough years of weathering the recession, Central Maui is on its way to fulfilling the potential its always had. There are a few major developments on the horizon that are in play or are in the very early stages of breaking ground. I urge many to look at it as an opportunity for young families to remain on the island or come home from the mainland.

One of the most exciting projects is the newest Central Maui Regional Park. Although the title suggests it is a park, it will not be used in the traditional “park” sense. They plan to build 12 lighted sports fields in total, with 9 baseball/softball fields, 3 soccer fields, and 600+ vehicles.

Excitingly, there has been a fair amount of commercial development in between Central Maui’s premier new home developments of Maui Lani and Kehalani. Sitting in between these communities are a few brand new gas stations, two new drug stores, and the newest Foodland on Maui. These commercial developments will be the new focus of the up and coming new Central Maui.

Within the fine communities of Kehalani and Maui Lani are two of Maui’s newest elementary schools. Both of the schools are comprised of the children that live in these communities. Pomokai Elementray which is located across from the New Traditions houses all of the children from various neighborhoods within the Maui Lani community. While Pu’u Kukui Elementary receives the stream of children from the Kehalani neighborhoods.

Another big project is the restoration of old Wailuku Town, plans are in the works to bring back the vibrant charm of the old plantation town. The vision of Wailuku is for clean urban edges balanced by the surrounding conservation, agricultural, and rural land use. The idea is for the town to live aloha while emphasizing family values.

The weather in Central Maui is, well hot. Depending on the time of the year, the trade winds do blow about 80% of the time in summer and about 50% of the time in the winter. Temperature does not vary much and gets up to about anywhere from 80-85 degrees on the regular.
