Maui Calls: The Social Event of the Year

20th Annual MACC Benefit

This year’s Maui Arts & Cultural Center gala event is already slated to be unlike any before, the event is reaching its major milestone of its 20th installment. A staple since the early 90’s, the center is looking to go all out and woo their guests with over the top entertainment and the best pupu’s on the island. Originally scheduled for the 8th of August, guests were informed of a change in date as Hurricane Iselle was expected to make land fall, but the town of Puna on the Big Island kept us safe by weathering the bulk of the storm (our best wishes go out to our neighbor island as they continue their recovery). The celebration has now been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 27, from 6 p.m.-10 p.m.

For the guests that have already secured their tickets well in advance, they will have their reservations automatically transferred over. As for those who would like to attend at the last minute, tickets still might be available but don’t take my word for it. Current price of admission is $175 for individual tickets (plus applicable fees). All attendees must be age 21 or over.

The event planners have stated that the benefit will boast all of the previously planned festivities and possibly a little more. The 2014 theme will be a tribute to “Celebrating the Songs of Hawai’i” which includes a concert by Jimmy Mac and the Kool Kats with a surprise special musical guest (standard practice of the event).

Maui Calls will of course have one of their most loved events, a live and silent auction. All for a good cause, up for auction is the chance to bid for hundreds of items, anything and everything from art and jewelry to golf and travel packages. Up for grabs will be an African Safari and a stay in an over-water villa in Bora Bora. They also always feature some of the most ‘uniquely Maui’ items found at no other fundraiser.

Throughout the entire evening, guests are able and encouraged to eat as much as they want. Choices include gourmet pupu and dessert creations offered by nearly 20 fine chefs and restaurants from around the island. 

Co-chair woman, Honey Bun Haynes said of the event, “One thing for sure is that it’s always a great party with lots of quality wines and fabulous food, fun-loving people, good music and unique auction items.”

Central Maui Real Estate

Central Maui is an interesting part of the island, not that it stands out in any particular way because of a major flaw; it’s just that a majority of residents call it home and functions as the hub of Maui. Kahului Airport falls under central jurisdiction, as a result, it tends to back up with traffic and tourists during peak hours.
