Nestled on the lower base of the West Maui Mountains, Star Noodle is doing there thing. They have quickly shot to local stardom, earning themselves the reputation as one of Maui’s best restaurants. They specialize in focusing on a variety of noodle dishes and street foods that originate from Japan, Thailand, and the Philippines to name a few. This delightful and refreshing joint is where highly esteemed Chef Sheldon Simeon rose to prominence, he also appeared on Top Chef where he placed third.

As the heading suggests, Star Noodle is a bit of a struggle to find. It sits a bit of the ways up a hill from the Panada Express that can be seen from the highway, it’s a little trick I use to remember the turn off. Don’t be fooled by the light industrial area, if that’s what you are seeing, then you are in the right place. The restaurant serves up some great cocktails, they’re all very vibrant with a twist, something you expect at this place.

Since the restaurant is located on an incline, it has a spectacular ocean views and amazing sunsets. It is an ultra hip space that is a refreshing change and unique dining experience away from typical tourist hustle and bustle of Front Street. The attitude and asian flair of the place is carried through to their dishes that make them something special.

The interior of the restaurant is modern with clean edges. There is a large communal tables directly in the center, bar stools along the bar which is on the mauka side of the restaurant, and more private tables along the back walls.

One of my most favorite dishes on the menu is the Ahi Avo, it is infused with lemon oil and a tangy shoyu (soy sauce) sauce. The dish comes as an appetizer, but it definitely can be finished by one person. Another dish I recommend is the Hapa Ramen. Sitting in a rich pork broth with roast pork, a poached egg, crunchy bamboo shoots, kamaboko (Japanese fish cake), fresh choy sum, mayu (garlic oil), and spicy aka miso, this ramen dish is something that exemplifies the restaurant’s best qualities. Fresh home made noodles, locally sourced ingredients, bold flavors, and an overwhelming abundance of satisfaction.

West Side Real Estate

The West Side of the island is very interesting, it is a blend of small tourist communities with a large local population littered throughout. A fair amount of the local residents on that side of the island work in the tourism industry that serve the world famous resorts of Kaanapli and Kapalua. Typically the designated tourist areas are as close to the beach as possible with a resort golf course nearby, it is kind of the perfect formula for visitors to utilize: beach + golf + sun = the perfect Maui vacation.
