Maui Film Festival 2013

Maui’s Newest Tradition

This week Maui residents and visitors alike will be able to experience Maui Film Festival’s First-Ever ‘FirstNight of FirstLight’ event. The Festival’s Holiday Season Celebration of Cinema features 20 Hawaii Premieres and 10 Special Screenings. The Maui Film Festival is most notable for hosting Maui’s premier film festival, The Wailea Film Festival in the summer time.

The ‘FirstNight of FirstLight’ will take part in three separate events, so it’s crucial the movie goers check the schedule to see what movies are playing on specific days. Part 1 is set for Wednesday, December 18-Sunday, December 22. Part 2 will run from Friday, December 27-Sunday, December 29. Finally, Part 3 will run from Thursday, January 2-Sunday, January 5.

Maui Film Festival is offering a 4-film VIP Fastpasses fpr $48, which includes 4 admission tickets for $12/film and priority entry lane passes. Otherwise, admissions will cost $15/ticket. All films will be held at the Maui Film Festival at “Maui’s Movie Palace”, the Castle Theater. The venue features a 41′ x 27′ screen (the largest at any 35mm theater in Hawaii), enhanced by Dolby Digital Surround Sound. The Castle Theater is located in Central Maui at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului, Maui. There will also be the usual live music, flirting, dinner, dessert and complimentary massage at the CandleLight Cafe between all 5pm and 7:30pm FirstLight™ screenings.

Barry Rivers, founder and director of the Maui Film Festival and curator of FirstLight, stated, “We know its challenging for people to see every film they’d like to during each June’s Festival.  So giving them a chance to see some of June’s films that are generating huge awards season buzz in L.A., NY and beyond seemed like a unique way to kick off this year’s series.”

The Maui Film Festival is a perfect way to cap off another beautiful year in Hawaii. The event is perfect for both visitors and residents alike, so be sure to make your calenders for one of Maui’s most unique events!
