Hyatt Opens Luxurious Andaz Resort In Wailea

A Brief Timeline for 3550 Wailea Alanui Dr.

It might’ve not been too apparent to the casual visitor, but the Wailea Resort had been missing a key piece of its 1,500 acre neighborhood for over seven years now. A prime 15 acre parcel of beachfront property, in between Maluhia at Wailea and Wailea Elua, was originally built up in 1978 and used to house the Wailea Beach Resort (later renamed to the Stouffer Wailea Resort, and after that the Renaissance Wailea Resort). Since 2005, however, there has been many rumors regarding whom the new tenants would be.

At first, it was slated to become a St. Regis, part of the Starwood Hotel Group; but that fell through and was replaced with a plan to make it a part of the new Baccarat Hotels and Resorts family. Unfortunately, all this planning was occurring during the heart of our country’s economic recession, and a bleak outlook for the real estate market and economy in general eventually caused this idea to be shelved as well. Finally, in the back half of 2011, a new face stepped up to the plate with comprehensive plans of demolishing the old property and rebuilding a new luxury resort in its place.  And so, the Andaz Maui Resort was born out of the Hyatt Hotel Group.

Last Chance to Own Hotel-Zoned, Beachfront Property in Wailea

One of the biggest reasons to celebrate this new resort is not only the 297 well-appointed hotel rooms and suites, but also the 12 luxury 2-4 bedroom residential villas! Information has varied with regard to the exact number of residences, we’ve heard as low as six and as high as nineteen, but we took a sneak peak at the resort only a few days ago and feel comfortable saying there are currently nine on the market, priced between $5 and $7 million. Please view the price list for the 12 Andaz Wailea Condos for sale that we posted earlier this year for specifics, but keep a couple of changes in mind.

The biggest difference we’ve heard is the two penthouse style townhouses in the D building were sold in the $10+ million range, plus E4 remains under contract, leaving just 9 left. The exact numbers should become much more clear in the coming months, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated when that information becomes available; regardless, one thing remains certain—these are the final hotel-zoned parcels in all of Wailea, which means it’s the last chance to get in on the ground level of a brand new, luxury condominium less than 100 yards from the white sand and blue Pacific. These villas are truly the last of their kind!

Overview of the Resort and Amenities

Murphy O’Brien, a Public Relations specialist for Andaz states, “This summer will signify a new phase for Hyatt’s Andaz brand as it unveils Andaz Maui at Wailea, a resort reflective of and inspired by the destination of Maui, located on 15 pristine acres of southwestern coastline.” Some of the highlights of the property will include:

* A location next to Mokapu Beach and a 1.2-mile shoreline with immediate access to restaurants, shopping, entertainment, golf courses and ocean activities.

* Morimoto Maui, the resort’s signature restaurant by Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, a second full-service restaurant called Ka’ana Kitchen, two poolside venues, and a 24-hour Hawaiian food, beverage, and retail market.

* A spa entered via the Apothecary Lounge with a private pool, salon services, retail shop, and fitness center.

* More than 15,000 square feet for indoor and outdoor events, including weddings and other group events.

* 4  multiple cascading outdoor infinity pools overlooking the ocean, poolside cabanas, and a water activities center.

Since the resort hasn’t officially opened yet, there will be much more information available in the coming months, including up-to-date prices and available inventory for the condos. Please don’t hesitate to contact us and we’ll be able to provide all additional knowledge that’s able to be shared.
