Maui County Sees Significant Recovery In 2012

According to a recent report from the economists at the University of Hawaii, 2012 was a “strong recovery year” for the County of Maui.

“Tourism demand from all major markets will provide one more year of solid visitor gains that will bring the industry to a high level of capacity use. Construction is now poised to make large and persistent contributions to the county’s growth in coming years.”

It’s been great to see the dust fences up again around the island.  Everybody I spoke with this past week has been slammed.  Architects, appraisers, and my friends who are working on the renovation at Andaz Wailea can’t seem to find enough time in the day.  They’re basically working around the clock.

They are making great progress every day at Andaz Wailea. Here is a photo I snapped on April 5th

The Andaz Wailea is scheduled to open at the end of July (although it might be closer towards the end of this year).  The hotel is going to be a great addition to the  resort, and currently has some great wailea real estate investment opportunities.  There are still 10 units available for sale: click here for the price list

The UH economists reported that the number of jobs in the construction industry on Maui jumped by more than 13% in 2012.  This was by far the largest percentage gain among the four major islands. The economists expect the construction sector to build momentum quickly with job growth averaging more than 12% over the next three years.”

If their prediction is correct, the construction jobs in Maui County will grow from about 2,900 in 2012 to more than 4,100 in 2015.  For more information, please see complete article: UH economists expect further robust expansion over the next three years
