Mahani Teave, Live in Concert

As Easter Island’s sole professional classical musician, her debut masterpiece, “Rapa Nui Odyssey,” soared to the top of the Billboard charts, earning acclaim from global critics, including BBC Music Magazine’s praise for her “natural pianism” and “superlative artistry.” Twice recognized among her country’s top 100 Women Leaders, Mahani has graced stages from the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin to Chile’s Palacio de La Moneda, performing for an array of dignitaries including five Chilean presidents.

Yet, her commitment transcends these grand venues. Driven by a profound belief in music’s healing essence, Mahani has played in hospitals, schools, prisons, and underserved communities, spreading solace and joy. For the evening’s recital, anticipate soul-stirring renditions of works by luminaries like J.S. Bach, Frederic Chopin, and Sergei Rachmaninoff, among others.

Makana: Songs of Maui Nui

Makana celebrates Maui, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi and Kahoʻolawe with songs and stories – both personal and historical – of each island. Maui Nui collectively refers to these four moku, as they once long ago comprised a single island. Performed in his signature style of kī hōʻalu (Hawaiian slack key guitar) with his broad range and traditional-style vocal vibrato, Makana and special guest Miss Aloha Hula 1980 Kaʻula Kamahele weave a musical and visual tapestry honoring Maui Nui, honoring those haku mele (composers) famous for their legacy works. Makana also debuts his yet unrecorded tribute to Lahaina: Lahainalalo.

When: Saturday November 12, 2023; gates open 6pm, show starts at 7:30pm. Where: McCoy Studio Theater, Maui Arts and Cultural Center, 1 Cameron Way, Kahului 96732. Ticket tiers are $35, $45, and $65 (plus applicable fees), available only online here.
