This Wailuku Heights home for sale, 588 Kulaiwi Drive is a Mount Kahalawai (West Maui Mountains) Estate. There are two unique factors that make this property one of the most coveted on the entire island.
First of all, there aren’t any homes in Central Maui that can compare with this property. Sitting at the highest elevation possible in Wailuku Heights (Wailuku’s most desirable neighborhood), the home commands over 5.5 acres and is a privately gated compound that is reminiscent of Upcountry living. The slope it sits on was specially graded to accommodate the property as this is the only place in Central Maui to offer unrivaled views of the North Shore, Mount Haleakala, and South Maui.
The 2nd reason the home is desirable is because the quality of architecture is comparable to that of Wailea homes, if not better. Designed by the award-winning architectural firm, Nishikawa Architects, the mansion was built in a way to evoke qualities of the California Mission revival style with spalshes of C. W. Dickey influence.
This beautiful 5 bedroom and 5.5 bath estate is excellently designed with a kama’aina feel while offering subtle modern touches. With dramatic coffered ceilings, a gourmet kitchen, master and guest en suites, a spacious office, and generous four-car garage, the home mainly lives on one level. The upstairs houses the guest en suites that is finished with unique details. Designed to mimic the island’s casual lifestyle, the interior spaces mesh with the outdoor lanais to create one seamless living area. Set a little ways off the lanai, is a refreshing pool to cool off in on those sunny Wailuku days.
Wailuku Homes Market Update 2017
So far into 2017 (as of 10/9), 158 Wailuku homes have sold for a running sales volume of a little over $100 million. Of those 158 homes sold, only 8 homes have sold in excess of $1 million; so as you can see, homes selling for more than $1 million in Wailuku are far and few in between. Meanwhile, the $500k and $600k are the sweet spot in the community with close to 60% of all transactions so far. The Wailuku market is typically made up of local residents with families who are looking to put down roots and make a home. So as to be expected, you won’t see any eye catching sales or landmark deals.
- Number of Wailuku homes sold: 158
- Average sold price: $636,748
- Highest priced home sold: $1,400,000
- Lowest priced home sold: $178,000

For this display of Wailuku Homes For Sale, I chose to only feature Wailuku homes for sale priced above $1 million so you can get a better look of just how rare 588 Kulaiwi Drive. The Wailuku market isn’t typically known for luxurious homes for sale like the way the Wailea market is, so any home above $1 million is considered pricey for the market.
Predominantly, the Wailuku homes that are listed above $1 million are in the $1 million range, so anything listed above $2 million is even more rare. More than half of these $1M+ listings have been on the market for over 6 months, which can be expected since Wailuku buyers aren’t necesarily looking for homes in that price range. The good news is, the longer a home is on the market, the bigger the window gets for a buyer to make an attractive offer.
- Number of Wailuku homes for sale in excess of $1M: 12
- Average asking price: $2,871,979
- Highest price listing: $14 million (shown above)
- Lowest priced listing: $1,099,999
