Family Fun

Take advantage of the annual Maui Upcountry Fair, it is a Hawaiian-style family fun event steeped in more than 35 years of Maui tradition! The event was designed with all ages in mind and offers a little something of everything for everybody. The fair will feature pony rides, Keiki Zone, a mechanical bull, bouncy castles, the 4-H Livestock Show & Auction, ‘Ohana Rodeo, a Made in Hawaii Arts & Crafts show, Cutest Keiki Cowboy and Cowgirl Contest, a BBQ cookoff, Molokai Sweet Potato Contest, food booths, and paniolo (a Hawaiian cowboy) activities. Where: Oskie Rice Arena in Olinda. When: Saturday, June 3rd and Sunday, June 4 from 9:00am-5:oopm.

The 2017 Na Kamehameha Commemorative Pa‘u Parade and Ho‘olaule‘a is a 2 day event meant commemorate and celebrate the Kamehameha lineage through the State Commission theme of “Hoʻoilina Pūlama Nā Mamo” or “Passing of the Torch.” On the Saturday of the two day event, the parade will commence at 9:45 a.m. from Kenui Street, down Front Street to Shaw Street. The hoʻolauleʻa under the Lahaina Banyan Tree will include exhibits, keiki art activities, a parade and pā‘ū awards presentation, food booths supporting community non-profits, Maui made crafts, music and hula. Where: Front Street in Lahain. When: Saturday, June 17 to Sunday, June 18 from 9:00am to 5pm.

The Arts & Culture

E Kaulele Aʻe – a Ho‘ike Celebrating Halau Kamaluokaleihulu presents their 2nd biennial concert: E Kaulele Aʻe (to take flight). The night provides a celebration of Hawaiian music, Hawaiian culture, and the art of Hula. The halau (similar to a dance company) will share the stage with Maui’s own Ahumanu and their beautiful harmonies, as well as multiple up and coming Hawaiian female vocalist. When: Saturday, June 3 from 7:30pm-10:30pm. Where: Yokouchi Pavilion at the MACC.

26th Annual Ki Ho’alu Guitar Festival features an all-star lineup including some of Hawai‘i’s best slack key guitar players performing melodious Hawaiian music festival! This is a family-friendly event, all generations can enjoy the slack key guitar tradition with both new music and classic favorites. It’s really the atmosphere of the festivals that set the mood, a relaxed lawn provides seating  and gives the event an informal, local-style feel, making it easy to lounge all afternoon. The best part is FREE ADMISSION!  Where: A&B Amphitheater at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. When: Sunday, June 25 from 1:00pm–7:00pm

MAMo at the MACC: Wearable Art Show

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center and the PA’I Foundation are proud to present MAMo at the MACC for its 4th annual event. An ode to the Maoli Arts Movement, the wearable art show celebrates Hawaiian design in fabric and clothing—specifically in terms of cultural motif. This fashion event grows in popularity year after year, so don’t miss out on the experience! Where: Yokouchi Pavilion at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. When: Saturday, June 17 at 7:30 pm.

Disaster Preparedness

Not necessarily family fun, but a definite precaution for keeping you and your family safe through the upcoming hurricane season is the Maui County Disaster Preparedness Fair. The National Weather Service is expecting an “above-average year” for tropical cyclones; El Nino conditions are slightly favored, which means a busy hurricane season that officially begins June 1 and ends Nov. 30. Where: Queen Kaahumanu Center in Kahului. When: Saturday, June 3rd from 10:00am-2:00pm.
