Exciting Maui Activities For the Kds

Electrifying Maui Fun For All

Leilani-Affordable Private Boat Charter

When we say affordable, we mean affordable in terms of chartering a private yacht for the day; their lowest offer starts of $1600 with room for 40. Leilani Private Yacht Charters provides the opportunity to explore the beautiful waters off Maui in comfort and style. Leilani is a clean, comfortable, a spacious 50 feet, and offers the flexibility to create your own itinerary. Whether it is visiting Molokini or stopping at Turtle Town, guests are free to create their own experience. From the observation deck, views of Maui’s magical coastline are a sight to see.  – at a price which is competitive to joining a large group tour.

Turtle Town

Affectionately named Turtle Town, it is one of Maui’s must do activities at Maluaka Beach, where it is one of the best places on the island to view the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles. Turtle Town is special for many reasons. It consists of a sequence of lava formations that entail thriving coral reef life and an abundance of colorful fish that call it home. Although Turtle Town can be accessed by land, it is highly suggested that people do not do so. To access Turtle Town from land, it requires an intense swim to the area and it can be tricky to navigate the very delicate coral reef (and hurt yourself in the process). We recommend visiting Turtle Town through an excursion by a boat charter or kayak tour.

Kayak Makena (Turtle Town)

Offered by local company, Hawaiian Paddle Sports, they specialize in kayak tours off the coast of Makena in an area known as Turtle Town. The kayak tours is another way to explore Turtle Town (as mention above). If you paddle calmly, the turtles may swim right up to you. It is family friendly and great for beginners, there are also private or group tour options available. Highlights of the tours include iconic views of Molokini Crater, Haleakala, Lanai, Kahoolawe, & the West Maui Mountains.

Maui is the Premier Island to Whale Watch

From December (and maybe even as early as September) to about mid May is the six month whale watching season in Hawaii, the Pacific Whale Foundation even guarantees you to see whales on their tours during November and May. Maui is the best spot in the island chain to search for Humpback whales, they are drawn each year to Maui because the shallow waters (except off the north shore) are around 300-600 feet deep. I suggest the Pacific Whale Foundation as the first choice company to use, they are a non-profit and are highly aware of the safety of the Whales.

Road To Hana

The Road to Hana is an amazing and unique experience along a journey through time as East Maui flashes back to simpler times. Since the speed limit is 25 mph or less the entire way, the drive time no stops averages 2.5 hours and that’s without any traffic or other diversions. With a winding 620 curves and 59 bridges along the route, the magnificent 56-mile drive is all about the journey and not the destination. Dotting the Road to Hana are some Hawaii’s most spectacular waterfalls and coastal areas in the state. Various roadside stands offer snacks and smoothies to ease the ride. But before you leave on your quest, make sure you have a full tank of gas as Paia is the last town with a gas station before the Road to Hana. Also as a side note, please be courtesy to the locals and let them pass as they are more accustomed to driving the road.

King of All Jungle Gyms: Kalakupua Playground at Giggle Hill

Easily the best playground on Maui, this impressive playground is a joy for the children! Recently renovated with vibrant colors and up to date to all safety standards, the kids will love you for bringing them here! Located in the Fourth Marine Division Memorial Park, once a camp for 20,000 U.S. Marines in WWII on the island of Maui, the park also features picnic areas, a baseball field, and a soccer field.

Baby Beach on the West Side

Not to get confused with the Baby Beach on the North Shore, the Baby Beach that is just down the road from Front Street in Lahaina is shielded by an exposed stretch of reef, creating a calm shallow area where small children won’t be knocked down by a big wave, and parents can let kids run without fearing the ocean too much. Although this beach may be skipped by most visitors, Baby Beach is better for families with young children.
