Family Fun

Lahaina is proud to host the island’s agricultural harvest celebration, The Chinese Moon Festival at Wo Hing Museum on Front Street in Lahaina. View a display of Maui County Farm produce in the Wo Hing Museum yard with Chinese teas and moon cakes served during the string performance and lantern dance. Cultural activities like calligraphy, knot tying, and kau chim divination will also take place. Kids can have fun learning how to plant Chinese Lantern and Moon Flower seeds, and can also make paper lanterns. There will also be a talk on the history of moon festivals in China. Traditional Chinese cuisine will be offered for sale. FREE admission. Date: Friday, September 16th, 2016 to Saturday, September 17th, 2016. Time: 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.

The Maui Okinawan Festival is always a fun way to spend the day with the family and celebrate one of Maui’s many local cultures that have greatly influenced the Maui lifestyle. Festival-goers can enjoy traditional Okinawan food, authentic entertainment and martial arts. Vendors will sell arts, crafts and jewelry. Professional photo sessions in traditional Okinawan wear will also be available for children and adults, with all proceeds to benefit MOKK. A country store will feature homemade pickles, jams and jellies, maki sushi, baked goods and different types of mochi.

Adult’s Night Out

6th Annual Maui Jazz & Blues Festival is a star-studded show featuring top Jazz and Blues artists that will rock the the oceanfront stage at the Royal Lahaina. The festival is actually a four day event with just concert taking place on Saturday, September 10th. Standout performances include: blues guitar legend and Blues Hall of Famer Joe Louis Walker, jazz guitarists Larry Coryell and Benny Uyetake, trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis, Grammy-winners The Band Courtbouillon, saxophone masters Javon Jackson and Rock Hendricks, and jazz trumpeter Gabriel Mark Hasselbach. $50 per person for general admission, $100 for Premiere VIP seats, and $1,000 for Premiere VIP tables for 10.  The event is always a sellout. Maui Arts & Cultural Center is proud to host the venue for Pink Martini featuring  China Forbes. Crossing all genres, from classical, jazz, to old-fashioned pop, Pink Martini aims to produce inclusive musical soundtracks for political fundraisers causes such as civil rights, affordable housing, the environment, libraries, public broadcasting, education, and parks. Singing in more than 22 languages, Pink Martini and China Forbes are certainly going to put on a show! When: Sunday, September 4, 2016 at 7:30PM. Where: Castle Theater.

A chance to experience an exciting and informative Hula competition! Kū Mai Ka Hula Competition will feature a performance by an award-winning hālau from Hawai‘i, the continental U.S., and Japan. Male and female dancers perform both kahiko (traditional) and ‘auana (modern) hula stylings. The competition will be judged by a renowned, prestigious kumu hula. Presented by MACC and Kauahea Inc. Tickets: $25 each day (plus applicable fees). When 6:00PM Friday, September 9th & 1:00PM Saturday, September 10. Where: Castle Theater. Mai Poina: The Overthrow is a powerful performance detailing the story of the tumultuous last four days of the Hawaiian monarchy. What makes the play so powerful is the perspective from which it’s told. This theatrical production tells the story of the people most concerned: native Hawaiians and other citizens of the kingdom.  An open discussion with Hawaiian scholars follows the performance. The play is presented by the Hawai‘i Pono‘ī Coalition, which was founded in 2007 to educate those who live in and visit the islands about Hawai’i’s true history, the Hawaiian people, and their culture. Seabury Hall 22nd Annual Scholarship Benefit Golf Tournament

I always have to give a special mention to my high school Alma Mater, Seabury Hall. I have so many wonderful memories of the school and always want to support it any way I can.  The 22nd Annual Seabury Hall Scholarship Benefit Golf Tournament is a fund raising event to support the athletic and academic programs. Proceeds will provide: scholarships to Seabury Hall students with financial needs and support the various Seabury Hall athletic programs.
