Seabury Hall Craft Fair
The Seabury Hall Craft Fair is an annual Upcountry fair, drawing people from across the island and possibly beyond. The craft fair is always held on the Saturday before Mother’s Day and is the perfect place to pick up a last minute gift. As a graduate of Seabury Hall, I am no stranger to shopping for a last minute Mother’s Day gift at the fair, it hasn’t let me down yet!
100% of the proceeds from the fair are in an effort to support Seabury Hall’s financial aid program. The craft fair helps fund deserving students opportunity for an outstanding college preparatory education that might otherwise be unobtainable for them. About 1/3 of the student body receives some sort of funding from the craft fair. It also aims to ensure that the school has a well-qualified diverse student body reflecting a broad social and economic mix.
The fair is a great family oriented event that will include: live musical performances (some by faculty, current and former students, local talent); Restaurant Row; home-baked goods prepared by the Seabury Hall ohana; silent auction prizes: vacation packages (local and mainland), artwork, gift cards; carnival games, pony rides for kids; a huge rummage sale; and plant, flower arrangement, and lei sale.
Restaurant Row, the craft fairs food booth, is the main draw for some visitors. The craft fair offers select menus of some of the island’s finest restaurants, many of the head chefs prepare special dishes for the event. Each restaurant operates their own booth offering items ranging from sushi and burgers to pastries and slushies. Local favorites are: Serpico’s pizza, Sansei sushi, Flatbread pizza, and Monkey Pod Kitchen.
The craft items featured for sale are sold by 100+ of Hawaii’s best artists and craftspeople. Years past have seen the participants include woodworkers, traditional Hawaiian artists, jewelers, ceramists and weavers.The fair is a juried event to guarantee all crafters participating are represented in the best possible format. New crafters must apply and submit samples of their locally crafted creations. Returning crafters are only required to submit samples of any new items.
Former Headmaster, Joe Schmidt, now retired, said “The Seabury Hall Craft Fair has become a tradition for many Maui families, and is a great reason to visit Upcountry in spring. The jacaranda trees are in full bloom, and the weather is still cool and inviting. Bring the whole family and spend the day on the 11-acre campus, eating delicious food, enjoying live entertainment and joining in the fun activities and exhibits.”
