New Construction Kihei: Kalama Kai

Workforce Housing comes to Kihei

A lack of affordable housing on Maui has been a topic greatly discussed across dinner tables and in local publications alike.  The latest community to be built in Kihei provides an affordable, beautiful option for Maui’s local population.

Kalama Kai is a 100% work force housing community that is available to Maui residents who are currently employed in the county or have retired after working in the county. The community will be located one block from the Cove beach off of South Kihei Road.

39 of the units will be 3 bedroom 2 bath properties ranging from 844sqft-977sqft and one of the condos will be a smaller 1 bedroom 1 bathroom.  Pricing will range based on the relative median income of the applicant. The initial offering of units for sale will range from $372,000-$521,600. While they will be open to all applicants, a priority will be made for 50% of the units to Buyers age 55 and older.

If the easy walk to the beach is too far, cool off in the pool or enjoy the outdoor BBQ area. In addition, the project will be built with covered parking housing photovoltaic cells, which will offset maintenance fees for the community.

Kalama Kai published their first public notice in the Maui News at the end of December.  All applications for ownership must be submitted by the end of January 2016 for their lottery scheduled for February 13th, 2016. In addition, there will be two buyer seminars hosted by the development to help applicants better understand this unique project.
