The Arts & Culture

Hana Cultural Center’s Annual Ho’olaule’a is a festival celebrating the Hawaiian culture. This one is my favorite because it’s an excuse to make it out to Hana! Food booths, live music, hula performances, hands-on activities such as kapa and cordage demonstrations, a variety of traditional Hawaiian games, storytelling, a petting zoo, informational and vendor booths will provide a healthy, multi-generational venue to attract keiki and kūpuna. Date: Saturday, August 22nd, 2015, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Location Specifics: The Ho’olaulea will be held on a large grassy lot immediately mauka of the Hana Highway just below the Hana Ranch Store in an area that is highly visible to all those traveling the road to Hāna.

The Obon Festivals held every year during this time are a great way to spend a Friday night. The location changes every Friday as each temple on the island takes a turn hosting. At every temple there will be dancing and a variety of asian dishes that changes at every temple as well. The August schedule is as follows: July 31 and August 1-Wailuku Hongwanji Mission, August 7 and 8-Lahaina Hongwanji Mission, August 15-Kahului Jodo Mission, and August 29-Kula Shofukuji Mission.
