Lahaina is the place to be on Friday, February 20th as they ring in the Chinese New Year (lunar new year) with a traditional lion dance, Chinese firecrackers, and a kung fu performance on the Baldwin Home Museum lawn at 5:00 p.m. Wo Hing Museum will host a FREE celebration from 5:00-9:00 p.m. with kids’ crafts, cultural demos and a presentation on the history of Chinese New Year. There will also be delectable Chinese foods to accompany your night out. Be sure to get there early as the lions will arrive at Wo Hing Museum at 9:00 p.m. for a grand finale dance. Firecrackers and blessing of the temple on Front Street to ring in the Year of the Ram!

 

Part of living on Maui is being aware of the unique aspects that makes it the gem of the island it is. The humpback whales that visit us annually are an incredible creature and we’re so blessed to get to see them as often as we do. Experience “Whales under the Stars” at Kalama Beach Park with Pacific Whale Foundation on Friday, February 13th at 6:00 p.m., featuring an interactive presentation from Founder & Executive Director, Greg Kaufman who will share stories and insights gained from over 35 years as a whale protection advocate and ecotourism pioneer. Take the family to Schaefer Gallery: Observe & Family Play Day to see the Schaefer Portrait exhibition, meet some of the artists, and make a tiny portrait to take home. The Schaefer Portrait Challenge is a triennial statewide juried exhibition; the exhibit includes 66 works by 64 artists from O‘ahu, Kaua‘i, Lana‘i, Hawai‘i Island and Maui. The challenge encourages Hawai‘i’s artists to capture the people and stories of the island communities through their chosen medium. It’s never to early to inspire the artsy side of a young mind. The event is held on Saturday, February 7th from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

The Maui Historical Society will present Iwalani Ho‘omanawanui Apo in concert on Sunday, February 8th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bailey House Museum in Wailuku. Pre-show happy hour starts at 4 p.m. with museum tours, a beer and wine garden, and pūpū by Mala ‘Ai. Reserved seating is $20. General seating is $10. Corporate tables at $300 each include premium, reserved seating  for six guests, complimentary pūpū and sponsorship publicity on radio advertising. Ticket outlets are the Bailey House Museum and Native Intelligence in Wailuku.

Adults’ Night Out

Join Kai Kanani Sailing Charters & Chef Kulis of The Market Maui by Capische in Wailea for theirmonthly sunset sail into deliciousness, the #KaiCapische will feature their a Taste of Sardina Sunset Cruise. Join the Wailuku Rotary Club at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center for their annual Lobster Fest fundraiser on Sunday, February 8th from 1:00-4:00p.m. This year’s proceeds will benefit Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Centers and Hui Malama Learning Center. The event will feature tasteful jazz music performed live, live lobster, live and silent auction. Visit MauiArts.org to buy tickets for $100/ticket if interested.
