It’s A Maui Halloween

Maui is arguably the most beautiful and diverse locale in this enchanting archipelago called Hawaii. But the island is more than mystical micro-climates and an easy living lifestyle—it’s really defined by the culture and communities that live and play together. This will be ever present on Thursday, as Halloween expresses Maui’s true “wow” factor.

Across the Valley Isle, there are many options as how to spend this Halloween, so finding an experience that suits you and your family’s needs can be easily met, as long as you know where to look. Below we’ve compiled some fantastic options, ranging in events for the active, go-getters, to calm and quiet families; whatever you desire, Maui can fulfill it.

The Keiki Costume Parade on Front Street is always a great time.

For the Wild & Adventurous

For just the third time in the last six years, Halloween on Lahaina’s Front Street is back! This Thursday night, Front Street will host one of their most famed events—an evening many Maui residents favor to enjoy their Halloween festivities. Although, it’s a bit of a trek for islanders on the other side of the West Maui Mountains, this never seems to inhibit droves of cars from driving out to the west side for some serious fun, (sometimes creating traffic all the way to the beachfront condos at Ma’alaea)!

This is a night that always draws a significant crowd, so finding a preferred activity will be no problem. There is trick or treating, as each storefront will handout some sort of goodie, and even a costume contest for the keiki (children). If you’re out and looking for a good time, many of the local establishments will gladly help you settle into the Halloween spirit.

Additional festivities will include a performance by The Lahainaluna High School Marching Band, this island’s most historic school, live music at Campbell Park until 8:00 p.m. (featuring The Benny Uyetake Band), and DJ Ron from 007 Productions will host music from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m at Banyan Tree Park (you can expect Mayor Alan Arakawa and his wife Ann to be participating in these various festivities).

From 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. an adult costume contest will take place on a stage under the Banyan Tree, with winners announced at 9:30 p.m. Registration for the costume contest ($20 dollars per person) will be at the Pioneer Inn Retail Store on Hotel Street between 6:00 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. After the contest, the evening’s biggest draw begins—Front Street is closed to all vehicular traffic and becomes swarmed with thousands of ghoulish, funny, and sultry costumes.

For the Calm & Quaint

Spreckelsville is a lovely option for families with young children, and those with older ones as well. This neighborhood is mostly known for its prestigious beachfront and golf course properties, but it’s also well regarded for the tremendous family atmosphere too. Choosing to spend your Halloween in Sprecks is one of the safest options around because of this setting—streets are wide with well-lit sidewalks, there’s minimal vehicular traffic, and above all else, residents are festively decorated and more than generous with their goodies!

For the Giving Souls

There is really nothing better than having a good evening while helping others at the same time. Hope Chapel in Kihei is sponsoring “Trunk or Treat” for Maui’s keiki. A community benefit for the “Before They Are Taken,” a worldwide initiative to help prevent human trafficking and slavery before it it begins, this will be a worthwhile charitable event.

Their expansive grounds will be filled with a parking lot full of cars, all decked out in Halloween fare and laden with tons of treats for the kids! Further events include: many cute ponies, that will be at the ready for a ride on a happy tour; a special hayride to climb aboard and take a spin; a petting zoo, keiki dancing, boxcars zooming down a track, games, entertainment,  and scrumptious food will all be available to top off your night of Halloween fun.

How Do You Plan to Spend the Evening?

As you can see, there’s a plethora of options to enjoy the island’s numerous festivities. Recommend any events that we didn’t mention, we’d love to hear about it in the comments below!
